You're right. Don't lose hope. Never give up. Miracles do happen.

I'm so relieved and happy that your turkey is hanging on. You mentioned that he is not drinking much. Do you have a syringe/squirter, so that you can squirt some water down his throat? If he is not drinking much, you HAVE TO get some liquids in him. I had to do that with my turkey the first time he wasn't feeling well. I usually squirt down gatorade, powerade or pedialyte, to get those elecrtolytes down and then water (sometimes mixed with a little sugar). I also would make a mash mixture of eggs, grits and yogurt and gently place in his mouth for him to eat. He always gobbled that up fast. He loved that.

Let's keep our fingers crossed and hopes up that everything will turn out fine.

I'm hoping to send you a blue goose so that you can concentrate on breeding for blue since you'll have the blue gene on both sides. Although, with this gander you'll be able to breed him with almost anything. The buff, lavendar, and blues require the recessive genes in both parents to get offspring in both sexes. Otherwise, the parent with the color will only pass it off to their opposite sex. For example: my gray saddleback gander carries the recessive buff color and when bred to another gray saddleback goose would pass that buff color gene on to his daughter resulting in a buff saddleback goose. With this breeding, you would only get buff saddleback females and no males. To get buff saddlebacks in both genders I'd have to breed that buff saddleback goose back to her father or to another buff or split-to-buff gander.

In the meantime, I plan to concentrate on breeding for buff saddlebacks. My goal for next spring is to produce both smooth and curly breasted gray and buff saddlebacks. I'm also looking forward to seeing what those "show quality" whites that I picked up in South Carolina will produce next spring. They are in moult right now so I haven't posted pictures of them yet. Three of them have some wing issues but I'm not sure if it's due to genetics, or injuries from turtle bites. The owner had an infestation of snapping turtles in her pond that terrorized her waterfowl. She had a duck that lost a leg and a goose that lost a wing. One of the white ganders had an injury to the wing but they were able to save his wing. Next spring, I plan to keep as many of the whites as I can to grow them out so that I can see what happens with their wings. I'm hoping for the best because these geese have a lot of potential. Their beaks and feet are VERY orange, and their feathers are VERY curly.

I dont have a syringe. I am going to head out to get one in a few minutes. I've been feeding everyone chick starter since its higher in protein and then adding vitamins. I've been putting out big bowls of it too. Trying to make sure they eat the food instead of foraging, in case its being transferred in the feces on the ground. I have been giving the turkey scrambled eggs and the chick food. He eats them on his own. Kind of weird that he eats but turns his nose at the water.

I just wish you could only get results back faster. So you could know what to do.

pray it gets better.

Me too. It seems like the antibiotics are helping. If it helps hold off the sickness until I get the results that'd be great. I try to do things as naturally as possible, but this qualifies as an emergency I think. I wonder how long I should give them the meds though. I started it yesterday after lunch and they said they'd have the results early next week. I have them on a Tetracycline-10 powder in the water, dosed at the lower of the recommended level. One of the threads said 3 days of treatment and Monday would be 5 days Dont know if I should keep it up until then or not.

Definitely a stink eye from that showgirl -- I can't even begin to imagine a whole flock of those!

Alas hope you get some answers today & the birds continue to improve (& the goat too).

Mike that's so terrible about you! -- you take care of you!

I have to get going now, today starting to tear down my office - we are moving all the bookcases & file cabinets to a central area so they can be sold. Tomorrow I have to take down my wall decorations. Anybody need a big nice deer head? I'm going to list it on Craigslist as I dont' have room for it at home. This is all kind of sad but I'm looking forward to a few weeks off at home & then moving on to something new.
