"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Thanks buddy, ill give them some water. I separated 3 roosters, they just turned 6 months. I have a friend helping me on Sunday. I'm ready to try my hand at this. If everything works well I could even see myself getting a few broilers next time I order chicks

i've tried broilers in the past, tried the cornish x and had the worst luck, chicks died very easily, and the end results were not up to size (i used 20% grower for them) then last year i got some red rangers and johnny greys from s and g poultry, talk about a difference, only lost 2 out of 40, used the same feed and chicken tractors moved daily, i butchered at 12 wks and roosters weighed 6-7 1/2 lbs, hens were 4 1/2 to 6 lbs, had a dressed weight of about 70% live, talk about meaty, and the extra 4 weeks of caring for them gave them a way better flavor!!!!

Oh I so forgot to tell ya'll something. Yesterday my buddy that is always hatching the chicks in the spring posted on FB and said that his girls "Had to Go" as he put it. His neighbor called and complained and work implied that if he wanted his job he'd get rid of his chickens!! I told him I had some major issues with this and I'd like to see work tell me that I "had" to get rid of mine!!

Work said he had to get rid of them? WTH kinda work does he do that it would be any of their business? WTH?????

Kuntrygirl, I hope you enjoyed your week of vacation. Glad you did nothing! I've often felt that after traveling for vacation -- I'd needed another vacation to recoop from my vacation.

Sometimes it's nice to have a week to rest and catch up on housecleaning & other projects.

Te Dave, I think the "plucking party" is an awesome idea. Monday & Tuesday doesn't work for me but for some of us that live close together I think that would be great. It reminds me of the stories my dad would tell about the Cajun people taking turns supplying meat for the week. Each week a different family supplied the animals for processing and everyone would join in and help process the meat for a portion of the meat. It would be nice if we could help out each other once in a while. I think we're on the right track with this forum.

I'm sorry to hear that some of my BYC buddies are not feeling well. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Barred Babies, congrats on the "new you"!

Have fun at the beach. Hope the weather cooperates for you to have a good time.

Also, on the issue with the neighbor, I agree -- I'm too much of a rebel for someone to tell me to get rid of some animals. If so, they'd better be careful. I'm likely to get a backyard full of geese, chickens, rabbits, pheasants, etc. -- Oh, darn..., I have a backyard full of animals.

Good morning everyone. How ya'll doing? I watched TV until about 2:00 AM this morning. I just couldn't tear myself away from one of my favorite tv shows. I like to watch "Lock up".

Anyone heard of it. Yea, I know, I should be ashamed but I like seeing what's going on inside of correctional facilities. I can't help myself. I watched hours and hours and hours of this. I finally had to make myself turn off the tv. I woke up about 6:00 AM to open up the coops. I am soooooooooooo tired.

Looks like rain. The weather forecast calls for a 30% chance of rain. Maybe/Maybe Not. We shall see.

Have a good day ya'll.

New2TheCoop, good luck on the processing party. Take some pics and show us if you can. Maybe ya'll can send vibes my way so that I can get up enough nerve to process by myself.

te dave, I can't wait to get broilers next year. Missi's broilers turned out great, so I'm excited
about next year.

Missi, glad that ya'll made it home safe. The new "doo" looks great.

Your neighbor's better watch out.

I'm sitting here watching the news and drinking a hot cup of tea. Delicious. I think that I need to go back to bed. Only 4 hours of sleep is slowling creeping in on me.
