i guess its wet plucking, i scald them first, only way i've ever done it. never tried dry plucking, would figure it would want to tear the skin,
i just get the ol'crawfish pot goin' and when it just starts to boil, i shut off the gas and start dipping birds, use a stick to poke the wings open and make sure it's all wet, about 15-20secs per bird, lay on the table and as soon as its cool enough to touch, feathers start flying!!! goes pretty quick about 15min per bird for me and the dw, slower for the kids, but hey they're helping and learning. just in case yall didn't know if you pluck your birds during the waning crescent moon no pin feathers!!!!! easy to figure out, just look at a lunar calendar find the day of the full moon and count 9 days. holds true for the 9, 10, & 11th day(waning crescent) after the full moon, other wise your likely gonna find pin feathers. my grand mother taught me this many years ago, has always held true!!!!

I went to TSC and I checked out a lot of the feed prices. I noticed that Dumor Grower/Finisher 15% protein is $13.99 while Flockraiser 20% protein is $16.99. What protein pertcentage do you feed your animals (chickens, ducks, geese)?
 
by the way the waning crescent for next month is the 22nd-24th.

i feed 16% protein layer pellets after POL, usually use 20% starter/grower from hatch to POL, however i'm gonna be getting some buckeyes next, i really like what i've been reading about them. it's recommended to use 28-30% protein with animal protein in it for the first 8-10 weeks, then drop to 20% until POL, then 16% is fine.
i get all of my feed from petrus feed in alexandria, i have 3 other feed places closer (about half the distance), but i buy 3 mos worth of feed at a time so the savings per bag outweigh the gas. i pay 10.50/16%, 13.95/26%, 9.15/chops, and 10.75/rabbit pellets 18%. for the amt you have to feed, may be worth looking into. also it is a feed mill, so if you need they can formulate something for you.

Well, Nola was doing great until this evening. She's been stuffing her face with green beans and game bird food. She was drinking good and hanging in the pool for an hour in the afternoon. Tonight... all downhill. She's standing in front of a heat lamp (she's been acting cold) with blood shot eyes, trembling. She's refusing food. I've tried lettuce, green beans, corn, zucchini, game bird food, scrambled egg, etc. She's barely drank anything. Up until an hour ago she was pooping food she had eaten. Now, its pretty much clear fluid. I just had the ag guys out twice in the last 3 weeks. No diseases, viruses, bacterias, etc. Try looking up goose health issues and get a bunch of stuff on human health problems and goose neck trailer hitches. Cant even find anyone on BYC that can help me figure out whats wrong. I mean, what causes the above symptoms and a wonky neck? She can move it fine at the shoulders. Its further up, near the head, where the top bend of the "S" of their neck is that is the problem. The crazy thing is, when she was stuffing her face with green beans, she had juice running down her front and could care less. Now, she's not eating, but she's trying to groom herself. I'm at a loss.

That's cool about the moon signs. I always start my garden seed & plant my garden according to the almanac.

That doesn't even look like a opossum. That looks like some type of creature that a scientist genetically created. It looks scary.

I hope that you have your dogs extra treats for that catch . They deserve a few steak. Way to go doggies!!!!
