Man Terri ya'll have had some issues with ya'lls trees this year haven't you??
I hope you got it all taken care of!!
Yeah it hasn't been a good year for pecan trees here at all! this was one of the younger ones in front, too, I guess it's just been so dry it just cracked. Not many pecans on it either, I noticed.
Feed prices sure are higher. I pay $15 for Purina Layena pellets & $17 for gamebird flight conditioner which is what I feed my peacocks & my younger birds.
I think I'm spending a couple hours a day putting out extra water these days -- they sure do appreciate it though, and (knocking on wood) I haven't had any fatalies to the heat so I know it helps. When I let them out to range they head straight for the muscadine vines & the fig trees & hole up underneath in the shade until sundown.
Lafayette, Indiana's kinda far to go even for free sand!
Sorry to hear about your trees Terri. That's a bummer.
I think we are all in the wrong business. Instead of owning chickens, we need to own feed stores.
I bought 10 more waterers (dish pans) this weekend. It's the cheap ones at Dollar Tree. They were red, so I thought they were cute. I put them in different areas under the trees. The chickens and turkeys like standing in them. Hopefully, this will help to keep them cool.
For some reason, people in Indiana are always posting in Louisiana.
