Thanks for the welcome, Terri (hopefully that's your first name!) I see you have Welsummers, I have a few, too. 5 pullets and a rooster. 3 of the pullets have not started laying yet and they are 29 weeks old. Is that usual with this breed?
Yes, I'm Terri! and yes, it's been my experience that my Wellies started laying later. I'm still waiting on my Ameracaunas too, the slowpokes! but the daylight hours are less now & some of the older girls are starting to moult. I'll be boosting the feed protein level with calf manna starting this week to see if I can "kick start" them into laying.
Good FOGGY morning everybody! we can't see across the road at our place!
I am so happy - my winter garden is coming up!
Planted everything from seed 2 weeks ago:
swiss chard, beets, turnips, cabbage, sugar snap peas & broccoli. Have the "greens" - lettuce, mustard, etc in another patch. Plus I had 5 "volunteer" tomato plants come up after we plowed under the summer garden, so I put those in pots & they are doing really good. I'll put them in the greenhouse when it gets colder, so we'll hopefully have ripe tomatoes this winter.
Off to weed that garden & pick up pecans. How are pecan prices in your areas? We are holding at $1.25 right now & prices are expected to go up again.
Have a good middle-of-the-week everybody!
