I AM ABSOLUTELY LIVID!
As most of you know, my birds are being kept at my fathers house until the pens are ready at my property which should be sometime next week. Well, my sister was going out to my dads for a visit today and wanted me to join her. I had already been out there once today to feed everyone, so I decided to pass and stay home. Obviously a very big and expensive mistake on my part. My sister called and with this little giggle says "My husband just killed one of your roosters". I first thought she was joking, and then quickly realized that she wasn't. I tried to calm myself down thinking that maybe they killed one of my mutt roosters to try their plucking skills. Nope, she says "I don't know, just some rooster. Aren't they all the same?"
NO THEY ARE NOT ALL THEY SAME!
They she says "Oh well, dad says it was some Marang (my idiot sisters attempt at saying Maran) or something." Yes, my brother in law killed my very expensive and only Maran rooster
Now, the rooster did somehow get out and try to get after my niece and brother in law, something that has never happened before, so I can completely justify them defending themselves. However, she seemed so proud of herself and thought that the whole situation was funny. FUNNY??? I think I would have been able to better process this loss if they were sincerely sorry, but I can't help but feel that they killed my rooster more for entertainment value than actual fear of getting hurt by him. My father could have caught him and put him in cage by himself until I moved them next week. I just don't understand how people can be so careless.
Once she realized how much money the loss of this rooster is going to have on me, she tried to change her tune a bit and offered to replace him. Yet again, she thinks this can be easily done and any old Maran rooster would be a fine replacement
I hate not having my birds at my own place, and this only makes me want to get those pens built even more. Hopefully they will have the carport assembled early next week so I can get started.
I am so upset
We all lose birds, and I am usually pretty understanding of that and accepting of that fact. People have no idea how much time, money, and effort goes into raising them. I just spent a lot of money getting my 2 black Maran hens shipped here from Peachick, and now these very expensive birds have no mate.
I have found a man in Port Barre that has some Bev Davis / Wade Jean bloodlines, so hopefully I can make a trip out there next weekend. There goes my Sunday, a full tank of gas, and lord knows how much more money for the rooster.
Did I mention I was FURIOUS???
