Pooped I had a long weekend.
Yesterday I did some plumming for my mom and I hate plumming but I couldnt tell her no. That took most of the day.
Today I went visit a cocker not far from my house. Helped him a little. Came home to hang Christmas light before my wife hung me.. I like Christmas lights on my house just dont like hanging them.
Went back to my friends house and helped him again. We cought 16 Sweater hens then trimmed there spurs if they had spurs, dewormed them, wing banned them, them dipped them to delouse them. Oh and showed me how to trim the comb, ear lobes and wattles. I enjoy it though. I love being around so many birds.
Of course I came home with 4 more Sweater Hens and a 1/2 Sweater 1/2 Asil stag to breed so I can make some 3/4 Sweater 1/4 Asil crosses. Holey poop batman I gotta start building pens bad

Here are two pics of him just after coming home, the pics are kinda blurry, and he was still wet from dipping him. I will post more pics when I can take some better ones.

Here are some of my spanish games that hatched yesterday. Thats another thing I had 8 due to hatch yesterday. 3 hatched yesterday one didnt even pip at all and the other 4 pipped pretty good yester day but never hatched so tonite when I got home in had been over 24 hours and they hadnt make it out so I made the best judgement I thought and helped them out all the way. I really dont think they would have made it out they where all stuck to the side of the shells bad. Maybe not enough humidity and they dried out. Rinsed them in warm water put them back in bator to dry off and gave them a couple drinks of half strenth gator raid I mixed up. We will have to see what happens..
Most of the time my chick eat withen 24 hours these suckers dried off in bater then I put them in brooder and they where already eating in less than a couple hours.

I posted for the first time about a week ago and want to thank everyone for the warm welcome! I decided to go back a bit in the forum and read the posts from the last month or so, and I finally made it back to the current posts today.

I really have the fever and I keep changing my mind about the coop, the fence, the chicken breeds I want. So many decisions! I am trying to be reasonable about it all - thankfully I have my hubby to keep me in line. I bought several Lowe's gift cards off eBay this week at about 10% less than face value, and I have a 10% off coupon for Lowes as well which will give us a 20% discount on materials. Can't wait to get the cards in so we can start shopping and get the fence and coop started!

I'm still trying to decide on breeds. My requirements - calm and docile, good layers, and not too flighty. Whatever I get, I'm hoping you can all point me in the direction to find some good lines in case I can talk one of my boys into showing in 4-H. (crossing fingers)

Now after reading the posts in this forum I keep thinking that it sure would be fun to get an incubator and eggs instead of chicks so my boys could watch them hatch. I loved that when I was a kid!

Hi, Tabitha! I am in Brusly, about 5 minutes from downtown Baton Rouge.

Ok here is a few that I mentioned I needed to get rid of last week. Let me know if anyone is interested.. I got to get rid of some soon. All of them are game, mostly stuff I was gonna start with and ended up getting others.

4 year old roo, not sure his blood line, I suspect cuban gamefowl maybe not sure. He is blind in one eye due to a fight he got into just before I got him. He survived on the yard 4 years so he has got some good blood, but he handles fine.

hey there & welcome!! we're a good crowd!!

Does anybody get the Greenfire Farms newsletter? I just love their creambar leghorns that lay blue eggs-- now that would do everything I want in a chicken!!!

WOW! Those creambars are 99 bucks for a day old female! I saw an auction here for 6 eggs and it's up to $200.00 now!

Sorry to hear things didn't work out for the show, was really looking forward to your report.

If I would have known you were looking a few weeks ago Terri. It wasn't a sportsman, but it was GQF.An older model that I had converted to digital thermstat.Once I converted it I had awesome hatches out of it.Worked like a dream. But I had 2 bators and a hatcher and that just led me to trouble....lol.... so I cut back to one bator and the hatcher. I spent $120 upgrading it and only sold it for 250. Hatched thousands of quail and hundreds of chicks, geese, turkeys, pheasants, and guineas in it this year.(now you see how I got in trouble.....lol)
