"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

However, I do need to make room for both some chicks I'm going to be hatching in the next two weeks and also for some other chicks I have on order from two different breeders so please don't wait to long.

Sounds like you have hatching fever really bad Chris!

I am trying HARD to resist the same disease! knowing that I have that new incubator on the way. Even though I did away with the 'evil roo' last week, I know the pullets' eggs are still viable as of yesterday....and they sure are nice -- the darkest Welsummer eggs I've EVER seen! -- must...resist...hatching....fever!
and there are SO many nice auctions going on right now, too! step...away....from...computer!!

It's a combination of a few different things.... Trying to decide what direction to go in, what breeds to narrow it down to and yes playing with and learning the incubation process.

I have some really nice RIR's and NH's in the incubator now and I have 2 maybe 3 NH's that hatched out around Thanksgiving that aren't going anywhere. All the NH's are from a German Line and are some really nice birds. The RIR's are also from a really old heritage type SQ line. The chicks I have ordered are more of the NH's from the same line I have now as well as some RIR's from the same line I have in the incubator. I also ordered Barred Rocks from a really old heritage line that dates way way back. All of these birds look nothing like the RIR's, NH's and BR that I have running around my yard now, so I'm kind of excited about that.

I think that I'm going to keep all the Sizzles and Silkies I have just because it will give me and my friends something to talk about...those are some crazy looking birds. I need to take some updated pics of the Sizzles to post here. It's like every day they change a little bit and look even crazier than they did the day before.

Anyway, so that's my story and I'm sticking to it. LOL! But yea, I gots da fever!!!!!

Chris

I lived over in your area for about two years ('07-'09) there in Simmesport got to know a few people over there too.

anyway glad you're here on the the La-yers thread and hope you enjoy the company too.

I have some heritage breeds that I'm just now getting up and going so it'll be probly around the beginig of next year before I'm up and running full-on though. I have New Hampshires, Barred Rocks and Delawares that I will be concentrating on mainly May add on couple of more but i'm having to down size considerably before that ever gets off the ground.

Right now I do have some laying stock rip, roaring, and ready to get on the job if you or anybody here is needing egg-layers. They are 8-9 month old pullets (Pro-reds and BSL's). Here in about a month I will be headed to the auction with most of them as I don't need 100+layers for my egg business, esp. now that I will be having my heritage girls taking up the slack when not using their eggs for hatching and selling. Would make a great package deal on some laying hens right now though if interested.

So, uhhh, I guess that's no on the Silkie roos?

Seriously, though, I don't know what to do with them. We can't eat them. (Ew). And I hate to just "off" them. But, they have to go. I have some hens that are missing SOOO many feathers because of overcrowding and too many roos. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Did you try placing an ad?

I put one on craigslist. Always makes me nervous with roosters, though.

I totally understand. I wish that I could help you out. If I know of anyone who is looking for Silike roos, I will let you know.
