"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

What's going on with your turkeys Mike? That's odd that they haven't started laying yet. I got turkey eggs all over the place . I even have ducks sitting on turkey eggs.

My last turkey hen has decided to go broody but she stole some goose eggs. It's a mad house over at my place.

Hi, all! I haven't been on the forum much, so I'm not sure where to post this. I am looking to add some chicks to our flock as we've lost a number to predators lately. We've taken care of the problem and are ready to grow again. Any one know where I can buy chicks in the Lafayette area? We're looking for some RIR and easter-eggers, but we'd also like a few more unique ones like Silkies, Marans, Frizzles....

THANKS!
Charlene

Like Julie mentioned CL would be a place to start and also the Market Bulletin. There is also going to be the 2012 Spring Expo http://louisianachickens.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2&Itemid=25 and I'm sure your gonna be able to find all breeds of birds there!!

good mornin' there La-yers and Byc-ers too

Hope everybody is in for a good weekend on here.
I did get part of my gardening done yesterday and "taters" planted and the rain held off till I got it done, Still holding now so I might get a chance to get some other stuff in the ground this weekend maybe while the gettins' good. If it rains the least little bit I'll be weeks behind again ,it just take for so long to dry out here, I just hope I'm not wishing it all gone all of the sudden though, Oh well, if it does huh? Anyway good day to all, hope ya'll the best of times this weekend.

Jeff

Oh boy it didn't rain at all here. yee haw! and I got 4 rows of sweet corn planted approx 600 seeds and tomorrow I'm going to plant 8 rows of string beans then disc up my big corn/watermelon field and get it ready to plant it in a week or two. I still can't get in the house garden spot to till, its still too wet. I need it to dry so I can plant cukes, squashes, okrie, 'maters and peppers. Then in a month or so I'll break up the pea patch and get it planted for me a few and the deer a lot. LOL proply gonnna have lots of deer ham to go with those few peas too if they bother me too much. That's the same as crows, no season on pest and varmints right? I got a good season for them. It's called Soileau's Ca' fe' Cheaux creole seasoning makes them (pea eatin' deer) taste good any time of the year.

Hi yall! I'm Heather, and I am new here. I decided to go ahead and start raising chickens. I have my plan for the coop and hubs is as on board as he is going to get. I do have a couple questions though. I'm really afraid I will kill the baby chicks if I get day olds, and think it might be better to get them about 6-8 weeks old. Not already laying, just past the brooder stage. Do people sell them like this? Are they more costly? If they do sell them, where?

Yes, you can buy them at any age you want. Look on CL or ask on here. I'm not sure where you are or what your looking for but I have some birds around that age that I'm looking to sell. Price will go up until about 6-8 months then start to go down. It really depends on the breed and what your doing.

I'm in Covington,
Chris
