One of my turkey girls has been pulling a fast one on me. Shame on her. And I thought all of them were accounted for. She has been secretly flying over the fence and laying eggs in the neighbor's yard. She was "heard" yesterday making turkey noises. Upon further investigation and walking closer to the area where the noise was coming from, she was found hiding in an area that had grass and weeds that were about 3 feet tall. She was TOTALLY covered by the grass and weeds. No one would have ever known that she was there. My neighbor had the city dump a pile a dirt on her property about a 1 1/2 ago and she never used this dirt pile, so grass has grown tall on it and around it. Well, this is the spot that Henrietta (my turkey) chose to lay her clutch. When she was found, all I could do was shake my head. I almost fainted. :barnie So at this time, it started to rain, so I had to run back inside. When the rain stopped, I had to find a safe, enclosed area to move her. The only available area was the feed storage building. So, a nest was made for her and water and feed placed inside the feed storage. Her 8 eggs were moved first and then she was moved afterwards. I have NEVER moved a broody a hen. That's like playing Russian Roulette. Unless you want your eyes torn out, fingers mauled and hand ripped apart, you just don't mess with a broody turkey hen. It's like putting your hand in a tank full of piranhas. You may draw back a nub. Well, she was moved successfully but didn't want to sit on the eggs immediately. I closed the feed storage buildings and left her alone. I checked on her this morning and she was sitting peacefully on her eggs. I hope she continues to sit. She will be in there all alone with no distractions (besides me going in and getting feed) and she has PLENTY of room to get up and walk around. I"ll have to clean her poop every day but I have no other choice. There is no where else to put her. So, I'm crossing my fingers that these 8 eggs hatch. After the hard rain the last 2 days, I'm nervous because I know the eggs got wet. I'll take a chance anyway and see what happens. If they don't hatch, then at least I tried.

What next could possibly happen at my house? :th

I have a Black Silkie feathered Sizzle Roo and a really nice Buff Silkie (not sure of the gender yet), you can have them both just come get them, I need the room. Let me know if you want some pics and I'll take some tonight for you. The buff is really nice. I think they both hatched around Thanksgiving.

Ok, the rain finally stopped, we got the sevin on them and one of the older chickens is sneezing a lot. She is not opening her right eye, hubs said that when she did open it it the front half looked solid pink, no black in the center. Should I seperate her from the rest? What could this be?
 
It is going to be sad if I do have to separate her because the two month old's have been resting under her, it is so cute!!
 
I think when in doubt you should probably separate her. It would be awful if she was contagious and it got all your babies sick. I wonder if chickens are no longer contagious after they've been on antibiotics for 48 hours like people.

Did the sneezing and eye problem start after you dusted them with Sevin dust? If so, it's a possibility that the Sevin dust accidentally got into the eye and nasal passage. If it were me I would rinse the eye out with a saline solution or with room temp water but not hot water. Check nose for dust in it. Let us know what you do.
 
No she was coughing/sneezing when I pulled her out of the coop. I brought her inside and it doesn't seem as bad. It took about 10 minutes to dust all 5 chickens and I heard her do it about 5-6 times, since she has been inside, I have only heard it once. It does have some congestion going along with it though. We gave her a milk crate and put food and water in there, but she knocked the food over and wants nothing to do with the crate. We covered it up and she just pushed the blanket off of it. The poor dog isn't used to chickens and he is freaking the heck out! It is so funny! Maybe it is just a cold? Or something to do with the wet and cooler conditions outside? Holy crikeys, I have never had chickens before and now I have on running around my living room trying to love on my dog driving him nuts! LOL
