"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I want both meat chickens and egg-layers. So dual purpose would probably be best. But I was wondering if y'all know of which ones do best in the Louisiana heat and humidity. And thanks for the welcome.

Well all of mine have always handled the hot Louisiana weather very well. (Rhode Island Reds, Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, New Hampshire Reds, Cochins, Delawares,......I have other breeds but this is a list of a few that I have.)

You may want to check out this chart.

Where is everybody today? Just got back from my 3rd Dr visit; had a bad spell this morning - come to find out I have either bad hearing or poor comprehension or both because I thought he said to stop taking my old bp meds when I started the 2 new ones he prescribed but that wasn't the case.  I am supposed to take all three of them! so now on two in the mornings & one in the evening & I sure hope this all gets straightened out soon! We bought a bp machine to track all the action.

Julie how many pea eggs do you have now? I still have no action from mine other than a lot of fanning & hot air. Send yours over on that horsedrawn carriage to show mine how its done! I can hear them carrying on right now....

Jeff your roosters are starting to crow -- any word on your machine parts? at this rate the pullets may be laying by the time you get them!

Hope everybody has a good weekend; since I'm supposed to be taking it easy I think I'll go take a nap! :)

Sorry to hear about your bad spell Terri. I hope you work everything out.

As far as the pea eggs, I'm only up to 7. I have all of the pea eggs under broody hens and my fingers are crossed. The girls are laying in the same spot near their feeder. Go figure........... :/

I bet that was so much fun! I've heard of swimming with dolphins but swimming with ducklings -- well that's just taking it to a whole new level!

Lol!! It is was the second time they went swimming with me. We dug a mud hole for them of sorts to play in, but since they are so little it is barely deep enough for them to lift their legs up in. I have one of those mesh floats that has the blow up edges so I get on that and let them use it as an island of sorts. (I have to be on it or the edges are too high for them to get back on) They jump off swim about 5 minutes and come right back to it. They lasted about 45 min until they were all on the edge trying to get the water out of their down!! After about 10 min of being on the edge without trying to get back in the water it is time to get put back on the ground. Or put in the house for the evening since they aren't muddy!! They really seem to love swimming underwater! It is so cute! They are only 2 weeks, maybe 3 weeks old, so this is the only way they are going to get to actually swim swim.... They grow so fast!! I swear they have tripled in size since we got them a week ago!!

Oh, and it is a saltwater pool, so no harsh chemicals for them to ingest!!

Hope you get to feeling better!! It's good you got a machine to keeping checking it. When I found out I had high BP they ended up putting me on too much meds and it got SUPER low.

I went and bought some Guinea eggs from a lady in Gonzales and she had Peacocks every where's. She mentioned that alot of hers weren't laying yet either!!

Terri, sorry you're not feeling very well. BP is very scary stuff. Take care of yourself!

Come over and swim with the duckies! It is so relaxing! I promise!! It will make you laugh your booty off! Definitely good for high blood pressure! (If it is low, that's another story, we might have to get them to chase you around!)
