"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

On day 22 of incubation and a good bit of my eggs haven't hatched. When should I give up?
I would leave them another couple of days just in case. Make sure that your humidity level and temperature are correct. Generally, all of your eggs should hatch within a 24 hr time period if everything goes well. That being said, life is not perfect!

Thank you!
Let me know if you ever want some during their laying season and I"ll save some up for you.
Still no pea eggs? Your girls are sisters to the ones that I bought from you right? I wonder why no eggs your way. You don't think they will lay this year? Why not? Could there be any specific reason why they wouldn't lay?
Terri, do you think that pea males are fertile their first year in order for the eggs to be fertile. Someone said that peacocks should be at least 2 years before getting a good clutch of fertile eggs. Any truth to that? When do pea hens stop laying eggs? I can't wait to try out some pea eggs in the incubator. By next weekend, I should have at least 6 - or at least I'm hoping.

Congrats on your stash from the fruit stand! Sounds delicious. I'm looking forward to my 10 day Juice Cleanse starting Monday. I need to detox. I have to admit that I did sneak and I ate some jelly beans and a couple chocolate bars AND I splurged on the granola bars that I made.

So my body really needs a cleansing and I can't wait.
MY RIRs have started laying the fart eggs. They little eggs are so cute. The RIRs will be 5 months old as of this weekend. Thank goodness they will be laying more soon because I have egg orders out of my ears that I can't keep up with.
Boy that's good I wished I was closer to you or had your problem I got multiple five(5) gal. buckets of eggs just sitting in wait to either get fed to the dogs or boiled and fed back to the chickens and biddies. Have no more room in the egg fridge, its overloaded too. I try to keep rotating the newer eggs in and the older ones out to the animals. You know, funny thing is I have the eggs for sale $0.50/doz. cheaper than the grocery stores sell those stale, months old, (pukified) eggs for and still don't have a customer base worth a hoot here, it a pure D'shame ya know.

Terri I have checked with the guy about the motor parts (Machine shop) of course its all a shambles and mass confusion I reckon. I shall see if I can get a chance to come get them and not worry so much about those guys and their problems. I know you need them moved soon give me a day or so to get plans made up.
Since we got all this rain I might be able to harvest you a big surprise so get your canner and jars ready just in case, LOL

Am I doing something wrong? One of our chickens is 6-7 months old, two are 5-6 months old, the 4th is 2-3 months old. Not worried about the little one, but why would the older ones not be laying yet? I know they had a rough start here with all of them having mites, getting a respiratory problem, the little one almost dying on me, and our 5th one being stolen by a predator in the middle of the night, but there have been no problems the last month, the ducks were introduced about two weeks ago now, and they still aren't laying eggs. They have a nice roomy coop, nest boxes, still on starter, but have crushed oyster shell available. Free range during the day, no mites in their hay flooring in the coop. Sevin lightly put in there and mixed every few weeks to a month. Scratch given to them daily along with leftovers from us to share with the dog. So what gives?

Well, hopefully we can come up with something. I haven't given up yet.

Gracie, what about the saddleback gene? Do you know if she is carrying saddleback? Pinch is solid white but has a couple of black feathers, therefore, I'm pretty sure that he is a saddleback carrier. One of the goslings is really looking like a saddleback. It has color on the back, legs, and under the belly like a saddleback. I'm watching for color to show on the head to determine if the head will be white or have the typical saddleback cap. These two goslings are the ones I posted pics of a few days ago and your first impression was that they were light splashes. The interesting thing about these two goslings is that they don't really look gray, and they are very light. Possibly blue?

An interesting thought to ponder. When I bought my original six geese I was told that one of the males was carrying the lavender gene. The problem is I don't know which one is the carrier. So far, I've never hatched a lavendar. One of the goslings that hatched yesterday has a blue/silver cast. It is definitely not gray. I'll post a pic tomorrow. Although, one of my saddlebacks that I hatched last year had a blue cast and he turned out to be gray. Still interesting though.

I would be willing to bet that she is a saddleback carrier. I hatched lots of saddlebacks from her parents last year.

Be patient! I've had some that didn't lay until they were 9 - 11 months old. They'll lay when they're good and ready.

I hatched out Speckled Sussex in March 2011. I don't think I got the first egg till they were 7-8 months old and from there I don't think between all 8 pullets I got more than 20 eggs combined till this spring. Now their laying between 5-7 eggs a day from 6 hens & 1 pullet. Patience is a very hard virtue when it comes to those darn eggs!!

Good morning everyone. My guinea keets started hatching last night. Here are a few POOR quality pics as I was trying to take pics with them still in the incubator. They were not scheduled to hatch until Saturday.

They are some feisty little critters.

Those are so cute!! Mine still have 3 weeks to go!! BTW you can take your craddle bars out when they go on lock down. And it's funny you talk about them hatching early, everything I've read about guineas say they will start hatching early. I've heard some say they were hatching still in the turner!!
