Oh no! I am far far far from being a professional. I can't even remember I have eggs in the incubator. LOL. I'm surprised they eggs are hatching because I kept forgetting to add water. :gig

I will try my pea eggs next week once I have collected some more. Now THOSE are the eggs that I hope that my "professional" incubating skills surface. :lau

Good Luck with your pea eggs! If you hatch extra chicks please let me know. I'm interested in getting some.

Good morning everyone. My guinea keets started hatching last night. Here are a few POOR quality pics as I was trying to take pics with them still in the incubator. They were not scheduled to hatch until Saturday.

They are some feisty little critters.

MEGA CUTE!!!!! I so wish I'd been able to get those eggs from you! Now that I'm feeling better I feel like hatching again!

Still no pea eggs here. I just don't think they're going to lay this year. Yesterday evening poor Romeo was fanning his little heart out & shaking his booty with everything he had & I was just begging the girls to pay attention to him -- but all they wanted to do was hassle me for treats.

Fantastic produce stand -- they are in Cheneyville & they raise everything right there. Well worth the drive. For $15 I got a dozen ears of sweet corn - just picked this morning, a big mess of snap beans also freshly picked, about a dozen tomatoes, and some beautiful red potatoes.

We will call next week & place our order for green tomatoes & bell peppers so Mom can put up some chow-chow. I need to find out what kind of tomatoes they are raising -- they are delicious (just had one for lunch). Mine won't be ready for another couple of weeks at least.

The RIRs dont' mind this rain one bit -- they actually appear to be enjoying it! I've been watching them roam around all morning out in the yard. I really like them better than any others that I have ever hatched. So much that I'm keeping a roo for future hatches. They are so big & such a beautiful dark mahogany color! and so nice. Chris, thanks again! I definitely owe you for this!

Ok, I sure will. I have about 8 pea eggs under a few broody hens, so, I'm crossing my fingers at least 1 hatches but would love to have more.

Thank you!

Let me know if you ever want some during their laying season and I"ll save some up for you.

Still no pea eggs? Your girls are sisters to the ones that I bought from you right? I wonder why no eggs your way. You don't think they will lay this year? Why not? Could there be any specific reason why they wouldn't lay?

Terri, do you think that pea males are fertile their first year in order for the eggs to be fertile. Someone said that peacocks should be at least 2 years before getting a good clutch of fertile eggs. Any truth to that? When do pea hens stop laying eggs? I can't wait to try out some pea eggs in the incubator. By next weekend, I should have at least 6 - or at least I'm hoping. :fl

Congrats on your stash from the fruit stand! Sounds delicious. I'm looking forward to my 10 day Juice Cleanse starting Monday. I need to detox. I have to admit that I did sneak and I ate some jelly beans and a couple chocolate bars AND I splurged on the granola bars that I made. So my body really needs a cleansing and I can't wait.

MY RIRs have started laying the fart eggs. They little eggs are so cute. The RIRs will be 5 months old as of this weekend. Thank goodness they will be laying more soon because I have egg orders out of my ears that I can't keep up with.

Yes, my girls & your girls are full sisters, same hatch except for my Vishnu--she was the only one to hatch 3 weeks later than the others, so she is younger than White Spot (& your two girls). IDK on the not laying; they are supposed to start laying when 2 years old. The girls will be two years old the 1st week in June; that's when they were hatched. IDK about your boys but India Blues tend to start breeding earlier than other colors & are supposed to be fertile from about 1 1/2-2 years. Your boys are 2 yr olds, aren't they? My boys are not IB's so they may be later maturing. The breeding season stops about the end of summer. You'll know because the boys will shed their trains. After that, they are no longer fertile until next year. (Gee, I miss Mr Burtis SO much right now -- I wish I had written down/recorded every word he said to me. Actually I did make notes on a lot of what he said but that was about the genetics on the boys he sent me). Go for incubating the pea eggs & see what happens! i sure would if I have or ever get any! I'm also wondering if the girls are laying late evening/night & something's eating the eggs-----I don't know how it would get into their pen....well, a snake could.....I'm going to go out there late tonight w/a flashlight & look around. Do yours lay at night or during the day?

I had some chocolate today also -- remains of the Easter Bunny, lol! Plus my Mom made lemon chess pie & gave us some & you know I HAVE to have a piece of that!

Thanks for the offer on the guinea eggs; will let you know. I'm really trying to keep my bator free in case I do get some pea eggs this year. I saw on the pea thread where somebody had 2 yr olds that didn't start laying until June last year, so there's still hope!

Wow, time has sure flown. So, the girls will be 2 in June. Thanks for the reminder. I need to mark my calendar about the girls. And yes, my boys are 2 years old.

Yea, too bad Burt didn't write a book or something. So much information.

Try putting a few golf balls in with the peas and if some come up missing, then that means you have a friendly visitor (an snake) to the pea's pen.

Good idea on keeping the bator free. Ya never know when your girls will start laying. I'm not sure when they lay. I find the eggs when I get home after work. That is strange how the sets of girls are either or either not laying eggs. I wonder if it has something to do with weather conditions, territory, etc. If I could get them to lay in their BIG nesting box but oh well.

Gracie, I think they'd be about the same as pigeons. Growing up, my dad raised lots of pigeons. It seemed to me to be fairly easy. He enjoyed letting them free in the afternoons to watch them fly. He had some homing pigeons that he played around with some, too. I would think that doves would be in the same category. Once I get moved and settled I plan to get some myself. They are also very good to eat.

BTW, I hatched two more sebbies yesterday. Brings me to a total of 9 goslings so far. Unfortunately, 8 of them are from your female. I don't know how interested you'll be in her offspring since you're trying to bring in new blood but, you're welcome to what I have to offer. It just happened that with my first 20-30 eggs I incubated, I tried doing the "dry hatch" method -- unsuccessfully -- and those were the eggs from my other females. When I finally got my hatching technique figured out is when your goose starting laying. I do have a few more eggs yet to finish incubating from other females but we're quickly winding down as my geese have stopped laying. Again, your goose, proving herself to be worthy and/or my gander to be extremely "sex-cited" to have a gal after being celebate for four years,
gig.gif
have had a productive season.

This gander is funny! He is one of my original six Sebastopols. I started out with 4 males and 2 females. He wasn't lucky enough to pair off with a female and therefore his life became very frustrating. He became more aggressive than any of my other geese. We named him "Pinch" because we were always watching out for him NOT to pinch us. Of all my geese, he was the one most likely to bite. In fact, of my 17 Sebastopols he's the only one that bites. Last year, I promised him he'd have a girl by the end of the season. Yes; I do talk to my geese...
hugs.gif
And, then your females came along. The name of your female is "Pinchette" because she is Pinch's girl. Now that Pinchette is setting, Pinch is meaner than hell! He doesn't usually try to bite me, however, right now, anything or anyone that goes into that pen is in danger. That is HIS girl! Look out when the babies come! !

Now why does my girl have to be the hussy of the bunch
gig.gif
If that is all I have to choose from when you are done hatching, then that will work! At least I will have a little bit of an outcross!

Well, hopefully we can come up with something. I haven't given up yet.

Gracie, what about the saddleback gene? Do you know if she is carrying saddleback? Pinch is solid white but has a couple of black feathers, therefore, I'm pretty sure that he is a saddleback carrier. One of the goslings is really looking like a saddleback. It has color on the back, legs, and under the belly like a saddleback. I'm watching for color to show on the head to determine if the head will be white or have the typical saddleback cap. These two goslings are the ones I posted pics of a few days ago and your first impression was that they were light splashes. The interesting thing about these two goslings is that they don't really look gray, and they are very light. Possibly blue?

An interesting thought to ponder. When I bought my original six geese I was told that one of the males was carrying the lavender gene. The problem is I don't know which one is the carrier. So far, I've never hatched a lavendar. One of the goslings that hatched yesterday has a blue/silver cast. It is definitely not gray. I'll post a pic tomorrow. Although, one of my saddlebacks that I hatched last year had a blue cast and he turned out to be gray. Still interesting though.
