"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

whats going one my friends working nights for the next to days so i will be on late 5pm to 5am. got 6 RIR's about a couple of weeks from laying. they just started to make a lot of noise in the coop when i am around it, more than usual. not sure if that is a sign but i do know the red on some of their faces are getting pretty red think that is a sign too. got the nest box ready with shavings in it but no one is going in it right now. would appreciate any help i can get on what to do to get ready and what to look for from my chickens...thanks and GOD bless

Hey there La-yers and BYCers too and TGIF if that makes any difference LOL my Saturdays & Sundays start out just like my reg. weekdays anyhow I notice very little differnce at all most of the time.

Flewdacoop those girls will let you know for sure when the time is nigh. They surely have mother nature on their side and working for them. Don't fret it too much, if you have them set up in such manner as you say, they should be fine. They will start going on the nest a little while before ever laying their first eggs usually, my Grandad called this practicing laying they will get in there and scratch around and dig and flip stuff up on their backs so on and so forth and then there it will happen and usually it will be a small egg sometimes these aren't found as sometimes they get hit with a surprise and think its a poop and it not but they get the drift and usually the next time they feel this strange urge coming on they will deposit the egg in the correct location. Just hang in there they know what to do a lot better than we do for sure. It another wonder of the Great Creators hands at work, it is surely amazing!

Other than that still fight the critters. My pyrenees is maddern a wet hen shes locked behind that invisible fence so she has started laying up right smack in the middle of the place lol (smart dog) them critters were snatch and grabbin on the edge and getting just past where she could go. None have gotten back in since she changed her lay up spot
Have (re-homed ) 7 foxes 2 coyotes 5 coons and 3 possums in 2 weeks. Startin to think everybodys critters moved here :(

how is everyone doing today looks like the weather is going to get bad.. looking to add 13 more to my flock would love some buffs and maybe some wyondottes but trying to make my flock with more color than just red and black/white.. must be brown egg layers.. anyone got anything

These are the 3 German Line NH pullets that I have. I am honestly thinking about selling them to make room for my other breeds. If anyone is interested, shoot me a PM.

PMed you Gracie

flewdacoop I have about 5-6 Delaware hens (1 years old) that I would sell they are hatchery type from Ideal not good marking on some of them but they are good layers I'm reproducing my own out of Heritage Barred Rocks and the New Hampshires posted above. Anyway they would surely add to your mix of reds.

Good Monday morning everybody! hope all is well!

Went out to the "big peacock" pen yesterday evening to put fresh water in their wading pool - as I started through the gate- WHAM! I got nailed by wasps! - they had built a nest in the top corner of the darn gate -- I got stung twice on the back of my scalp -- boy did it hurt! still tender today....blasted the nest with wasp spray & went back 30 minutes later & blasted a few more who had flown in. Needless to say, the peas did not get their fresh bathing water yesterday - they'll just have to wait until I get home today.

We were putting up shade cloth on our grow out pen & ran into fire ants, so stopped & treated those mounds & put that project on hold, too.

I gave up and went inside -- to hear a cicada screeching in the living room! My Cocker Malcolm had brought it in -he doesn't eat them, just likes to hold them in his mouth - silly boy -- I grabbed a paper towel & told him to drop it - he promptly laid it down & put his big fluffy paws over it. Didn't want to lose his "toy"!

Gotta love living in the semi-tropical South sometimes!

What's up everyone? I've been crazy busy the last few days and finally got to come home and just sit for a few minutes. We had a really bad accident happen at work early Saturday morning and between all the USCG, US Environmental, Under-writers, Lawyers, Owners and Employees.....crazy is an understatement.

Anyway, I have a friend at work looking for 2 peas! Anyone have anything they would like to sell? If so please PM me with the info, age, color, price and such and I will pass it on to him.

Gotta go check on my birds then go try and get some sleep......tomorrow is going to be another looonnngggggg day!

Chris
