"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Anybody in our lovely state that will have good quality heritage chickens that are being raised to the SOP available in the near future? I sure would love to get into the preservation act. I would really like Barred Rocks, but would consider RIR's, Orp's, NH's, and others too. I know most don't have chicks till the spring and if that's the case, can I get on your waiting list? Over the last several months, I've been pouring over the threads where Bob Blosl, Walt, and others have been preaching the gospel of good ol' standard chickens and I'm ready to jump on the bandwagon now.

I have a pair of Partridge Rocks that I'm looking to sell. 8 months old and great bloodlines. $35, and you could be raising your own chicks this spring!

I have Mohawks (RIR's), German/American New Hamps (GNH's), Good Shepard Barred Rocks (BR's) and a good line of Buff Orpington (BO's) and I live in Covington. In fact, I will be selling some of my birds from these lines this weekend at the swap in Covington. I won't have chicks at this sale but I will have a couple trios at the point of laying (about 7 months old) and a few in the 4 month old range.

Good morning all - another pretty morning here!

The three Caballeros: they can't stand to be inside the chicken yard - too boring! every morning they fly out & across the yard to hang out in the back by the kitchen door, so they can keep an eye on what's happening.

We had some interesting clouds at sunset:

I keep thinking about getting a couple of guineas, but I'm worried they will bother my neighbors. Do they really alert the other birds if a hawk is around? I've been having to keep my birds locked in their run more than I'd like because the darned hawks are causing trouble. Grrr. Beautiful sunset - thanks for sharing! Brandy

@jovy1097 - Chris has gorgeous birds! If you're close to Covington you should go to the swap to check them out.

I don't know Brandy-- we have a lot of hawks & eagles, too - I know my RIR roo is good about warning the flock when I have them out free ranging. Honestly, mine aren't that noisy - neither are my peas - the caballeros are mostly for comic relief here.

Thanks for the sources of good heritage stock, folks. Unfortunately for me, just after making that post I came down with the worst case of fever, chills, and sore throat I've had in years. I've been bed-ridden and am just feeling a little better tonight. I am about two hours away from Covington, but fairly often go to that area for training purposes. Maybe I can meet up with Chris sometime and buy a trio or some such from him.

Check with me anytime and I'll let you know what I have available. I'm about to get cranked back up and do a few test breeding's but by early spring I should have a bunch of chicks and some juveniles to sell.
