Louisiana part deux

I didn't realize a new thread was started! I was wondering why nobody had been talking about the get together. I am going to tell some friends of mine they should come. My husband is supposed to home this weekend so he should be with me. I am also working on trying to talk my in-laws into coming. So we shall see. You still have those blue EE's for me Phoebe? I am getting so excited to see them! Are you able to tell what they are yet? I can bring something! Not sure what. I am very good at bringing chips and stuff like that. I am not very good at cooking for stuff like this as I procrastinate too much.

Bring it on Berryhill Chicks

I am bringing brownies and some dips.

As soon as I get my car back we will have to go to MS Phoebe.

Debbie

yay!! The more the merrier!
Now Rachel, I make no promises about these being "Blue" EE's, but they are gray and really pretty. I thought The darkest one was a roo, but I'm thinking its saddle feathers look more round than pointy.......
We should probably start a list of who wants to bring what.
Just add your name to the list and what you'll be able to bring. We can do whatever y'all want for food, burgers, dogs, chicken.........I can make baked beans, potato salad, banana pudding, cakes, whatever......
I talked to Mike about staying home that day to hang out with us, and we can do plucker demos, we have the pool up, and plenty of kids toys to enjoy (them, not us)
If anyone has a table that can be easily transported, we might need that, and everyone might have to bring chairs, I have several, but it looks like our numbers are growing......

It's Ok if you don't have anything to bring, I have more than enough to send you home with! Just kidding!
All I have is EE's and MANY, MANY roosters! Everybody can bring home 2 and I'd still have too many!

Wanna start a food list?
Debbie-- brownies and dips
Joz-- water and soda
I'm waiting to see what everybody else decides and fill in the gaps.

I want an Araucana chick....

But I don't have a coop yet. Or any other chicks to keep it company... I also want a Welly, and a WCBlue Polish, and a Speckled Sussex, all girls, roughly the same age, with no need to quarantine, please. And a Pony. (Is there a spoiled little princess smiley?) I promise not to cry if my Polish turns out black or splash instead of blue.

I keep thinking I've resigned myself to ordering everyone from MPC in the spring, but I want them NOW durnit, and MPC doesn't have Araucanas or Ameracaunas (tho I'm OK with an EE too... just so long as each chicken makes a different colored egg so I don't have to guess who's laying what. See? I can compromise!). And then y'all have posted 3/4 of my list between the last couple get together threads, and I could take
peepers HOME with me... and it's JUST SO TEMPTING!

Sigh.

I'll bring a couple cases of water, and may (or not) pack the kennel. Just in case (or to prevent overly hasty decisions). Or something.

Does anyone have any spare Blue Polish chicks?

I am thinking I can bring chips and some sausage or hot dogs. Whichever you all think would be enjoyed more.
Phoebe it's ok if they turn out to be just gray. It will be closer to blue then what I have! lol But I will take them on the idea that they COULD be blue!

I am still trying to think of any birds I could bring. I think I might have decided to keep all of my speckled sussex. I had to Polish in with them and one of them recently drowned itself.

Either that or the Ameraucanas murdered it by climbing on top of it. I am not sure what exactly happened but I made hubby modify their cage after that. So now I am down a chicken for my big coop and I love my sussex. So I have been trying to think of any other chickens that I might want to part with.... and it is just so hard. I might bring a hen that is already laying, my husband calls her Mississippi mud. She is just a mutt, but she is pretty. I also have 10 too many roosters. We are planning on trying to process them so those plucker demos would be much appreciated!

I look forward to seeing all of you on Saturday! I am keeping my fingers crossed that my hubby will be home. Unfortunately we need the money so he said he was going to stay until they finish this job. Which could be Thursday or Friday. Or it could be another week, you just don't know with drilling.

He... um... Heck, I'm not bringing anything (bird-wise) except my own greedy self.

Mostly I just wanna see chickens, watch the plucker and discuss processing, talk chickens, get some advice, and get myself and the man pumped up enough about the chickens to start building the coop.

I may SOUND like a spoiled princess, but really I'm not expecting anything but good company and good times.

Bummer about your Polish/Sussex issues, Rachel.

Hope everything works out. Are they different sizes? Different personalities? Is there something in your predicament I should consider, since I also want to put the two breeds together in my mini-flock?

I think it was mostly that they are on the ground. The polish and ameraucanas are the same age and the sussex are 2 weeks older. I find that my ameraucanas are really kind of wild at this age. They are almost 3 months old now and I can tell that they are starting to calm down some. The cage they are in was built to just sit on the ground and we had just got it and put them in there. We ended up getting a good rain that night and didn't realize that where we put them held water on one side. We have now modified the cage to where they can get good and off the ground so we think it took care of the problem. I am just glad I only lost one of my babies from that cage. Having chickens has been a big learning process for us, but we are getting the hang of it. At least I think we are. Oh and I was going to mention that my mother in-law is trying to sell some white cornish batams if anybody is interested. They are almost full grown, I want to say 5 months old maybe.
