love chickens, hate eggs

Am I the only one who loves her chickens but can't stand eating eggs. I make my husband and kids eggs 3-4 days a week minimum but I never eat them. I love having fresh eggs for my family and I love using them to cook or bake but I hate eating scrambled or fried eggs. I have chickens because I love them. I like building my coop, picking out new pullets, teaching them to come when called, and just generally hanging out with my chickens. After all this work though I don't personally eat the eggs lol. Am I the only one?

You are definitely unusual in not liking eggs. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen any comments from another BYC member that doesn't like eggs. The good news here is that your family likes the eggs, so they are not being wasted, and whether or not you like eggs, chickens still make great pets. )

You just may be the only one, lol. I don't remember reading of a member not liking the eggs before. At least your family does and you can use them in baking. If you end up with extra eggs, you can scramble (without salt) or hard boil them to feed back to your birds. Or sell them and maybe make a bit back to put toward their feed bills.

Glad you're enjoying having them as pets, they are fun to have around.

I also do not like eggs but have 3 sons & my husband all do!!! So il feed them the eggs & will take an extra piece of white meat!!!

Haha I'm not the only one!! Yeah I have 2 boys between them they will eat 6-8 eggs and my husband has 2 so we never waste eggs!

I understand where your coming from because before having my own chickens I didn't love eggs. I mean I ate them, eapecialy sunny eggs but I couldn't do plain scambled. NOW! Goodness you couldn't stop me hahaha. I try to add some kind of eggs in any dish. I can eat em plain and scambled or with ketchup. And I'll eat a quail egg raw fresh outa the shell any day. Give your chickens eggs a chance. I guarantee they taste completely different from the ones your used to in the store. And your controlling what goes into them. That's really what I love about it. All the good salmon skin scraps and veggie peels and boiling water I can give to them that would have otherwise been tossed and wasted gets put right back into something I can eat. Veggies starting to mold? Remove mold and give to the chickens!! Leftovers smell a little fermented? Chickens!!! Lol

It's not quite the same but, I won't touch egg whites - I love the yolks. My friend is the opposite and only eats whites(store bought), she has chickens and will not eat any of their eggs ( she has had chickens for more than 25 years). She just has 4 bantam house pets pets now. All the eggs get fed to her dog.

I don't think it's any different than people who are vegans and those that aren't. It's really rude to comment on what another person eats or doesn't eat. But, rudeness has always surrounded me. I have people speak up because I put ketsup on hot dogs, or don't eat veggies. I love meat & potatoes. I've also had people gasp when I order a chocolate malted for breakfast. I'm 68 so no kid. Personally I don't care what they think but, if they irritated me enough I would have just two words for them and it's not 'Merry Xmas."
