Today I lost my boy Eli. He was only 6.5 months old but was huge and he was a gentle giant. He was bigger than my 2.5 yr old chickens. I feel this had something to do with his passing. He loved to follow me around and check out everything I did. He was a lavender Ameraucana and handsome as heck!! His feathers were beginning to turn gold. He had no idea how handsome he was. I've enjoyed his company everyday and I will miss him muchly. ❤

That is very sad. :hugs. I'm so sorry for your loss. Did you send him for a necropsy, by chance. I have never done this, but it does bring closure for some people on here. Seems like we always lose our favorites. :hit

Thank you. I did not send him for a necropsy. It's expensive. I heard him pass though and it was very loud and sudden. Plus his chest area and around his keel were blue and I learned from having a dog pass from a heart issue that this could be from a heart attack.

Grieving with you on your loss. And such a handsome fellow indeed. Be encouraged. Cherish your personal and photographic memories - let them warm your heart. Know your BYC family is here for you, too.

Not chicken, but still a feathered friend we lost at our house. The brown and yellow duckling "Jerry" passed away suddenly as a baby. He was all my boys favorite, and they shed a lot of tears over that little guy. We still talk about his duckling antics from time to time, he is missed!

I wouldn't have either. I would only do it if I had 2 birds go in succession. It's sad enough to bury one of our favorite pets. Sounds like a heart attack to me too. Poor guy. Poor you! :hugs
