Love for the lost feathers. A memorial to our chickens. ❤

How very sad. My last 3 dogs that passed were at 14 years old.(not all at once though)
Last one was January'89 haven't had a dog since.

Thank you so much everyone. I so appreciate you reaching out. It feels good to have support in a tough time. Our other rooster seems to be handling Eli's passing the hardest. He keeps standing still and waiting for something. I think he's half worried that he doesn't have an extra set of eyes and half missing his friend. They were pretty close. They did spar nothing too serious. Plus the older girls gave them crap. Lol. I'm not sure that it would've always been that way, but it was beautiful while it lasted.

Not chicken, but still a feathered friend we lost at our house. The brown and yellow duckling "Jerry" passed away suddenly as a baby. He was all my boys favorite, and they shed a lot of tears over that little guy. We still talk about his duckling antics from time to time, he is missed!

Awe your duckling was so adorable. I bet his loss was felt. I love the joy you guys have now talking about him. ❤
My son is seven and he took it pretty hard. But there was a show on tv today that had a lavender chicken of some sort on it. He called to me and told me to come see it. He told me that was Eli coming to tell him everything was ok. The synchronicity is uncanny here. ❤❤

Its 5am, I'm awake, and would normally be listening to my rooster crow but today its quiet. Yesterday when DH came home from work he saw my beloved Rooster had been hit by a car. We live on a dirt road, and this is not a normal thing for us. Our neighbors know about the birds and they dont typically hang out in the road. My boy Houdini "Dini Doodle" would stand in the road sometimes while the girls crossed. He was a huge boy and it looked like some one ran right into his shoulder. I'm heart broken. He was 4.5 years old. He was a huggable rooster, and the best I've ever had with the girls. He suffered an eye injury when he was young and we became attached while he healed inside. He loved to be pet, and took his rooster job seriously. The girls loved him too. He would always come over to say hi whether I had treats or not. I found this thread figuring this would be a place where some people might understand the loss. My heart hurts, and our yard is not the same. It somehow is harder knowing it wasn't a preditor but a careless person. There is no reason someone shouldn't have been able to stop. I've had alot of roosters but this one was special.

:hugs:hitI am so sorry to hear about Houdini. He does sound like a great roo. Some people can be so careless. I hope for his sake he didn't suffer :(
One day at a time, and when you're heart is ready, there are always roosters needing a good home.

thank you so much. Its sometimes hard to find people who understand how much you can love a chicken! I truly hope he didnt suffer also. I kept all the girls in the run today. We didnt hatch eggs this year because I had a baby myself. I'm kindda sad I dont even have a rooster of his to fuss over. When the time is right I do know there are others who can use a home. Maybe in the Spring. I've had good roosters in the past, but he was next level.
