Love Me, Love My Garlic

I love garlic. I don't have many friends.

I don't know what kind of garlic it is, but it makes really fat short cloves and is very mild. I've bought the little 1/2 pint containers of it at Whole Food Mart. They've pickled it or cooked it somehow, but it's still very crunchy. I could eat a whole case of it to myself.

Theda's Mom :

dangerouschicken, You're in the Columbia Basin (well, close), how can you NOT grow inchileum, the garlic of the Colvilles. (but thanks for the reminder, I need to order mine now too!)

I have never heard of this garlic. I will have to investigate it further. Thank you!

Zyklonia, I EMPTIED IT!

BTW, my daughter always says, when she's pretending to drink something, that she is drinking garlic juice. I have no idea where she got that from, but it sounds disgusting

I do love me some straight up garlic, though

AHHHHH! You guys are giving me a huge case of garden-expansion-itis!!!! We live on sand, so all of the soil for my garden had to be trucked in

. I am now thinking that it is woefully undersized. I need a new plot for some garlic, glorious garlic! As well as corn, pumpkins, and okra... Time to get the hubby involved

menageriemama,
I don't know what zone you live in, but you can plant some in the fall, and harvest in summer. This way you can plan your expansion next summer and still have garlic growing! That's what we did. We picked a spot where in the spring the garlic wouldn't be in the way when we started planting, and then made the garden bigger as we needed to!

ok so I did want to try garlic.. I dont have money to buy any more seeds dirt ya da ya da ya da we did all the spending already..

but occasionally I will have store bought garlic sprout on me.. could I plant that? if so how deep and such..

I was wondering when everyone stops watering their garlic? We always grow garlic and onions in our garden, I can't remember what kind because it has been years since we bought it. We just replant some cloves from the year before.
