Lovebirds....

I've got a peachy-face lovebird who is quite the clown! Whenever he wants some attention, he hangs upside down from the top of his cage and rocks back and forth until you acknowledge him. He loves to get on my finger whenever it's offered and gives me soft kisses when I put my lips up to his beak. We trust each other, can't you tell?

One day last summer, I decided maybe he's lonely after all these years of being alone in his cage and bought a yellow w/some blue on the tail, cage mate. It's quite a bit smaller and has a very quiet chirp. He or she isn't as friendly but they both seem to get along just fine.

Absolutely adorable Lovebirds!

The only Lovebird I ever had was a single Lovebird that was the only one to hatch in her clutch. She was a Latino. OMG...I fell so much in love with this bird over her years. She bonded with me immediately and I became her mate. She spent every waking moment on my shoulders, arms or wrists. She would climb down my arm to scream at me if she didn't like what the hands were doing. Or she would cheer me on as she sat on my wrist as I swept the kitchen floor. And of course she had to sit on the top of the shower curtain while I showered looking out for predators.

She was my love. I have kept other parrots over my years, but NONE as sweet and loving as my Skeebie. She passed away almost 3 years ago at the age of 12. It nearly broke my heart. But seeing these pictures brings back all the fond and wonderful memories of my beloved Lovebird. She is still missed in this house.

Thank you for sharing all your Lovebird pics! Fantastic!!

Wow, Skeebie sounds like a sweetie. Got any pics?

I've wondered how long a lovie lives. The ones I have were all bred and raised by me so none over 11 years old. I had a lot that I bought as proven breeders from other people and I didn't know their ages, but they've all passed now. Spitfire is my oldest at 11 going on 12. He and Olivia and Elizabeth all love to hang out on me and "help". They "help" with the dishes and taking a shower. They love to have my hold my cup my hands under running water in the kitchen sink so they can take a bath.

I, too, have raised a lot of other bird species, even raised African Greys...still have one, but the lovies are by far my absolute favorite of all birds. If I could only have 1 bird out of all the birds in the world, it would be a peachfaced lovebird.

I have heard that the average lifespan for Lovebirds is around 10-12 years although each bird is different. So I was very lucky to have such a sweety in my life for such a long time. I did not have any pics loaded in my computer of her, so I had to take pics of her pics. So sorry if they are a bit grainy or have flash marks.

Sounds like you have some sweeties with you also!!

Take good care of them and they will fill your heart with love.

Here is a few pics of Skeebie. And no, she is not dead in the last pic. When she was about 10 years old, she started to slow down quite a bit and would fall asleep right in your hand. My hubby had her in the palm of his hand and I got the pic.

Nothing like Lovebirds to warm the heart.

Awwww how sweet.
My Spitfire (Spitty for short) sleeps in my hand, but he sleeps on his side, legs sticking out, and he looks dead too. Tried to get a pic, but he hates the camera and when you turn it on it makes a little chiming noise and he jumps up in a flash. I haven't noticed him slowing down yet. Fingers crossed he lives a lot longer than 12 years since he's coming up on his 12th b-day. He's still top bird over Olivia and Elizabeth.

Wow, your Spitty sounds a lot like my Skeebie. Don't you just love how they interact with you? I had thought that being so small, compared to Cockateils or Greys, that Lovebirds might have been less interactive. But oh contrare! They just get right into life and live right along with you.

I have heard of some folks having Lovebirds live to nearly 20 years, although this is only heresay. But I sure hope your Spitty makes it. I know how much one can love these little birds and they work their way into your heart.

Thank you for sharing!
