Loved Eggs Before I Had Chickens

I am probably just a head case, but….

Preface - I’ve lived a generally healthy life…I don’t eat a lot of junk, was big into CrossFit and Paleo for many years. And as a part of that, I ate a lot of meat and eggs. A lot - a lot.

I've had chickens for about a year and I have an issue eating their eggs. I‘ve always known “where eggs come from” so to speak, but these are my pets, and now it’s weird (to me) to eat something they plop out. And I keep thinking the eggs are gritty (they aren’t, nobody else in the family says that). I know this makes me sound like a weirdo.

The other problem is that I WANT to raise my own meat birds but 1) I can’t kill a bug in the house, much less an animal, and 2) my fiance has processed chickens and can do it, but then I’d probably be in the same situation I am with the eggs.

Anyway, just wanted to get that out. Maybe I should visit a commercial processing plant and let that disgust me enough to never touch anything but locally raised, including my own. sigh.

You need to peel them before eating them,, :old :gig :lau

OK,, just a little ice breaker here. :hugs
In the beginning,,, when we started keeping chickens DW would not eat our chicken eggs. I did, and gave all the extras to neighbors. She must have had similar feelings about homegrown eggs as you.:idunno
Then one day she ran out of those corporate eggs, and had a choice. Ether go to store to get more to complete the recipe, or use the home grown eggs I had.
Chose to use our eggs,,,, and since that time never looked back.

If you read many post in this BYC forum,,, you will find, that most peeps prefer their eggs to store purchased.
I only keep my chickens as pets, and do eat the eggs. I do not process my pets. They live into their GOLDEN YEARS.
We eat plenty of chicken meat from the store.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, :highfive:
