Greetings! I have an odd one. Here's the scoop. We have a mixed flock, 3 adopted Plymouth Barred Rocks Hens (who turn 2 in November) 2 Americauna's Hens (turned 1 this April) and a pair of Black Jersey Giants (hen and Roo). All the hens began laying right around 6 months of age, our loveliest Americauna who is also the bottom of the pecking order began last, she started laying a couple of days before Christmas and layed a few eggs a week for exactly one month and then quit! She has not layed since. We know everyone picks on her, however she gets plenty of food and water and attention from us. She is not injurred and is not over visited by the Roo. What gives?! Is she just depressed? We have just hatched some more BJG girls and are keeping 2 more BJG Hens to add to the flock, we are hoping the re-sort on the pecking order changes things up and does not make her even lower on the totem pole!

Any ideas on how to get her laying again, she is quite lovely, ornamental hen is not really what I had in mind though! ;) Her picture is attached, with her first egg, better picture the egg than her, but you get the gist she is a lovely golden colored Americauna

Yep it is hers, they (Americauna's) can actually lay blue, blue green and pinky brown eggs, hers are a pinky brown and lovely and smooth like her hatch mate's egg that is a blue egg, unlike the rest fo the flock who lay different shade of brown and have a very matte finish. Yeah I spend WAY TOO much time with my birds and can totally identify who layed which egg. :) Would really love her to start laying again.

I can totally identify with the "spending way too much time"!

Thanks for the info. With these girls it's not hard to learn something new every day, maybe lots of somethings new!
