Hi, this is the first time I have ever hatched chicks from an incubator, I'm using the hova bator and it said to fill trough one and two for lockdown. When I did this, the humidity only went up to 65%. It is currently day twenty-one, and I'm wondering if there is any point in raising the humidity now, or should I just leave it? (the eggs are moving a bit).

thanks

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

65% is good if it's accurate. Following those guides is often ineffective because it doesn't account for YOUR ambient humidity.

If my humidity drops before hatch.. I put water through a straw through the holes in top of the bator.

Or wrap a towel around to hold temp and humidity and then quickly drop a wet sponge inside.

Also, depending on how many are hatching sometimes humidity can spike once hatching begins.

Do you see any pips? :fl:jumpy:jumpy

I fill all available troughs. I want condensation on the viewing windows. You can open the incubator at anytime to remove chicks or add water. Just don't piddle around when doing so. You will lose humidity which can be replaced with several fine sprays of water from a mister before you replace the top. Transient temperature drops during the hatching is insignificant. During the hatching process chicks generate a lot of heat.

Thanks I will do that! (No pips yet):hit
External, that you can see.. sometimes they are hard.

Can you here any peeping? Did you use calibrated thermometer? What temp did you incubate at? Is your hovabator circulated air or still air? What humidity did you incubate at? What type or color of eggs? And where did your eggs come from?

Hang in there, movement is good. :fl

One of the eggs actually just piped and has been chirping on and off,:celebrate it's not a calibrated thermometer, and I have been keeping the bator at about 101 the past twenty one days and it's a still air incubator. The humidity has been 45-50% the first eighteen days. My neighbors have chanteclair, dorking, bantam, barred rock and amaricona chickens, that's where the eggs are from and they will most likely be a barnyard mix.
Hope that answers all your questions :)

If this is accurate then you will be SLIGHTLY delayed. And maybe prolonged a little hopefully not quite staggered. :fl

Sounds like you might be good with nothing to worry about!
:wee

ETA: Be patient!! :pop
