Low Humidity Nurture Right 360

I purchased a Nurture Right 360 on Saturday. This was an emergency replacement for a different incubator. I love the NR360 so far. Only trouble is I can't keep the humidity where the instructions say it should be. I'm getting a range of 33%-40% with cup A full and vent open. I was able to achieve 45% by adding some water to cup B and closing the vent somewhat but then thought better of it since fresh air is needed through the vent. I'm not quite sure what would be best to do. On day 2-3 today, I'm participating in the Easter Hatchalong. This is my first incubator hatch we've always used broody hens in the past.

I close my vent on mine to about 1/2 of its opening. That allows me with a full cup a to get it up to 50%. Now most people myself included feel that 50% is too high for day 2-3 days and your 33-40% is more idea depending on what your trying to hatch

But your vent doesn't need to be comepletely open until hatching day when you start to see pips in your eggs. I like my NR360 too.

I love my NR360s! I just bought a third one to take part in the Easter hatch-a-long too, lol. I leave the vents on my NR360s wide open but it won't hurt to keep it halfway closed for the first portion of incubation, just make sure to open it for hatch. With port "A" filled all the way it's usually between 45-55% are you sure it was filled all the way? It takes a lot more water then it appears to, "A" holds 4oz.
Just keep an eye on air cell growth and adjust the humidity accordingly. I let mine drop as low as 35% for periods of time if I feel the air cells are a bit small or up to 55% if they're large but I find the sweet spot in my NR360s in my home is 45% most of the time. Good luck on your hatch!

I guess I won't worry about it too much then. It's a learning curve since this is our first incubator hatch (when the broody hens hatch no worries for me but we miss most of the action!). I think it's our dry winter air and dry heating. Now we got a big drop of snow last night and suddenly my incubator humidity was 43-44 all night!

I think A is staying all the way filled. I slowly add water until I can't anymore without it spilling out. I notice it takes a little while for the water to fill into the incubator. I won't worry so much if some 30's early on aren't usually a problem. We're up to 44% after getting a lot of snow last night. I think more humidity in the air has helped. Thank you.

lol you got snow and yours went up and mine went down. I have had to fight with mine all night to keep it were I want.

I had this issue yesterday. I couldn't get mine above 38% so I added about a tablespoon of hot water to "B" and it raised the humidity to a perfect 50%. The vent is open about 1/3. I don't think it'll be too big of an issue as long as the air sacks are at the appropriate levels before lockdown. Then just make sure you have enough warm water in the incubator to keep it around 65% humidity. Good luck tho!

Just remember to keep an eye on the air cell growth so you know whether to adjust the humidity up or down. Humidity in the early days of incubation is about allowing the eggs to lose the perfect amount of water weight (11-13% by day 18 is usually optimal).

I've been hatching for a while by gauging my air cell size (without weighing) with great results but because all of the good examples of air cell growth are digital images I started working on weighing as well as marking the air cells so I can give real life examples on different sized breeds. I've only finished the bantams (Silkies) but I'll share the digital and bantam air cell growth images to hopefully give you an idea of what you should be seeing.

Good luck on your hatch! I think you'll love your Nurture Right! I just finished a hatch last night and had 94% hatch rate overall!
