i’ve got a lavender hen who i’m pretty sure is near the bottom of the pecking order for my flock.

when i go in to give them treats, she always stays back and gets pecked away when she goes to get herself some.

tonight when i checked on them at roosting time, i noticed she’s on the top roost, snuggled in tight between two other birds.

is it unusual for a bird at or near the bottom of the pecking order to be roosting in prime real estate?

I've had that happen with my hen before when I know she is pretty low on the pecking order but she still gets on the rooting bar 1st and is at a very Prime spot i have no idea why but I guess that is the way it is

My alpha hen prefers to sleep on the lower roost, next to the wall. She always has. My lower ranking girls sleep on the top roost, even though they get pecked. It’s funny, sometimes they sleep in the same spot as always, other nights they move around… 🤷‍♀️
