Once we found our chicken with the swollen eyelid we started following your site and made the decision to start antibiotics. We have been putting one drop of oflaxacin two times per day for three days. We have not seen any improvement. She remains active and doesn't seem to be having any difficulties other than decreased vision. Any ideas you have on what is going on and how to help our chicken would be greatly appreciated! Chris

I would love any help or any opinion on what could be wrong with my chicken. Any ideas out there?

Thanks for the reply! It is not any better. We used antibiotics for a week, with no result. The chicken seems perfectly fine other than the
swollen eyelid. She runs around like a crazy girl. Maybe I should just not worry about it, but I would love for her to have vision in both eyes.
Thanks for any thoughts!

Is there any liquids coming from her eye? There may be an infection in there. Or she may have an object in the swelling area.

maybe someone hold her while you check the eye. Is she still with the flock or has she been quarantimed!

Thanks for the reply! She is still with the flock and has no puss, no oozing, no evidence of any infection... We have held her and taken a look, but do not want to poke at it. Maybe I should just take her to the vet as it seems to be a mystery and I know there a lot of people interested in chickens on this site, but no one seems to know what could be going on.

With most swollen eyes we would think of respiratory infection. The antibiotic I would use is Tylan 50--1/2 ml. for large fowl and 1/4 ml.for bantams once daily into the breast muscle for 3 days. Rotate sides each day. It is best given as a shot, but can be given orally if shots are not possible. If you can get anymore close-up pictures it may give more details. Does your hen have any other symptoms?
