The chicks will be coming from Ideal in early February. I also have a rabbit hutch type thing that I would be able to use, and my husband is building me a chicken tractor.

I don't know what my issues will be with predators. We have lots of dogs that roam loose, a fox or two, several hawks and lots of snakes (and probably other things that come out at night). What about Owls, should they concern me also? We have a couple of them also. The run will be made secure, but I don't know if any of the predators will still be able to get to them. This is why I am nervous about the 10 of them making it to adulthood.

The chicks will be in my insulated garage for several weeks, not in the house outside.

Of course, they would get great care, all of my animals do.

I'm glad to hear that others are also trying this playhouse as a coop.

I'm glad you posted the price because I couldn't find it! The playhouse is adorable but I couldn't find it available at any of the NC stores I tried, so only the picture would show, not the price...not that I need another coop, especially one as cute as that one!.... I was just looking and thinking how sweet that one would be...in case a chicken wandered into my yard by accident or found it's way into my car from the feed store....you know how those biddie babies like to sneak in your car when you aren't looking, then you hear a little cheep - cheep on the way home and see that cute little face and fuzz butt and no way is it going back, lol!! Nope, just wondering how much that playhouse was for no reason at all......

Hi,

If you go to lowes.com do a search on playhouse, several different ones come up. I got the one that is painted blue online.

Online it said it wasn't available at my store, but it actually was.

It may be cozy but my Roo Mario, the 3 standard hens, the 4 "peeps" (19 weeks) and two bantam cochins (10 birds in all) are all quite happy in a 4x4x4 cube coop!

I built it for 3 - 5 birds but then they did what birds will do and suddenly I had 4 more, and now a new batch hatched yesterday so now I am looking to expand my coop this spring....

I asked the store manager if he would discount the playhouse since it was recently on sale. He let me buy the floor model for 325.00 already assembled (same price as unassembled) plus 55.00 delivery fee. I also found out that if you keep your receipt and call the store every week and ask the current price and if it goes on sale in the next 30 days after your purchase, you can bring your receipt in and they will credit you back the difference in the sale price. I plan on using it as a silkie coop. The windows are open and I will put screen up with a staple gun and clips to put plexiglass into in the winter. For anyone getting one of these, don't forget to prime the wood before painting it. I am going to put it on concrete patio blocks so the wood is not directly on the ground. They sell 12"x12" and 24"x24' and will deliver those with the house, no added delivery fee. I will make a "patio" that is about 6" wider than the house to prevent wood rot. So a 60"x60" patio for a 48" wide coop.

How are all of you Lowe's playhouse people arranging the inside? Where will you put the roost(s), nest boxes, food, water, etc? I'm trying to figure the most efficient way of arranging mine...
