Interesting. Our quail don't migrate. They are permanent residents throughout their range.
There are 6 species of quail in North America.

Perhaps the migration thing is further proof that old world and new world are not closely related.

So I found a company today that will stitch hats for the cages from transparent foil. It will be interesting to see the end result.

Actually, according to birdlife international, only some European or Common quail (which should be what you have in Bulgaria) migrate:

Most likely you still have them in the winter, you just don't see them
Also, according to the article the Japanese quail don't migrate at all. The coturnix quail we have in captivity are most likely hybrids of the two.

I suppose it is a matter of taxonomy. Some call them Common quail, others call them Coturnix Pharaoh. They are the same for me and these are the ones that we have in the wild that do migrate. Except... It is legal here to hunt for them, so indeed many are killed during migration period. BTW you said you are from Denmark? What interesting eggs can I buy from Denmark? I have never had a successful hatch with shipped eggs but I am still willing to try.

I'm from Denmark, yes. Not sure what eggs you could get here.. I'm not really into rarities. I'm just incubating barnevelder chickens and coturnix quail. I rarely see anything but chicken eggs and coturnix eggs advertised. Not even sure if we have any rare chicken breeds or coturnix colors.. Mine are pretty common - pharaoh, italian, manchurian, rosetta, tibetan, and white. Most interesting color I have is one of my rosetta hens that has a gray hue

@DK newbie , I recently bought Barnevelder chicken eggs on ebay from the UK as we do not have that breed here. All the 6 were fertile but nothing hatched, I suppose shipping killed them. I would like to try again with that breed, I only need to find eggs I have hatched Wyandots, Orpingtons, Brahmas, some other interesting which names I don't know and I will be setting Leghorns tonight.
Now, quails - can you post a picture of your tibetan/rosetta? I have one chick that was classified as tibetan-rosetta and I think Rosetta is a subspiece of tibetan. We have quite a lot of colors, and I am not that much into quail colors... as long as they lay eggs

I think tibetan is the name of a double factor rosetta - tibetans are darker than rosettas. I only have one tibetan and he's kind of ugly because he lives with two other roos and they are a bit hard on each other.. But I'll se if I can get him to pose for a picture.
Some say that at least on rosettas you can somewhat feather sex them by how red their color is - females are brown, males more red. Seems true for mine at least, but I only have two hens and one roo.
