Good morning all! I’m new to raising chickens, and I just picked up my first few from tractor supply yesterday. Unsure of what type of chicken she is, her name is Rosi. this morning I noticed this lump in her neck. She had it yesterday too but not nearly as obvious. It’s really hard and doesn’t seem to bother or hurt her when I touch it. Can anyone tell me what this may be? I’ve read a bit about crop, not sure if that could be it?

Is this something I need to worry about? She’s eating and drinking fine, but it’s getting bigger

*tongue in cheek* Food goes in mouth, lands in crop and stays there awhile, moves though digestive tract, most notably while sleeping and the crop is typically empty by morning. Rinse well. Repeat.

Some of mine go to bed with a squishy crop (submissive birds) and others are so firm that you'd think someone forced them to swallow a tennis ball (dominant birds). Absolutely nothing to worry about with your chicks.

:)

Thank y’all so much for the reply. My last set of chicks (before tragedy struck), never had this so I didn’t even realize this was a normal thing :jumpy

It's okay to be cautious and you're certainly on the right forums to ask ANY questions about your chicks. Oh and, that chick in hand on your forum image, if that's your chick, it looks totally healthy and beautiful! Nice full crop, and probably one of the dominant chicks in the clutch.
