I have a white leghorn that came to me with a crooked toe. Crooked as in was completely broken as a chick and it is permanently in an L. A few days ago I noticed a lump forming in the web of the crooked toe and the normal one next to it. It's like the size of a marble, but it has not changed since I first noticed it.

I've seen quite a few threads that make me think it may be bumble foot, but how would you recommend going about it with the crooked toe. Would you just lance it like normal and try to wrap around it? I also read that you have to disinfect everywhere...does this mean it's contagious?

Though I have not had experience, I have done lots of research and it looks like an advanced case of bumblefoot. Does it have a black spot on the bottom or between the toes maybe? And The disinfecting is just due to the fact that you are opening the foot up to get the seed out and it is meant to avoid letting in bacteria that would cause infection. I have read one surgery for it that had to go in from the top to get the seed/core/corn out instead of through the bottom of the foot.

It's really good actually. There is no lump on the bottom and the spot on top is gone. It just kinda shrunk away. I've been checking everyone daily and so far nothing else is out of the ordinary. Epsom salts to the rescue I suppose :)
