Luna My Chick has a curled toe and can't stand properly......!

I understand, I hope she will correct on her own! :) Hope she does better, I understand how worrisome it can be to have a sick or injured chick.

Does Niacin help that? (asking...I don't actually know) Niacin can be bought at a grocery store (people vitamins) I am following this thread cause I could be the next one to need to know how to deal with this problem... :( So I better learn what I can...

PolyVisol with NO IRON Check out PoultryPedia.com

You're dealing with CTP - Curly Toe Paralysis/Riboflavin Deficiency/Vitamin B2. PolyVisol no iron 2 - 3 drops per day, B Complex 1/2 tablet, beef liver, boiled egg yolk, spinach, mushrooms, sesame seed, tuna

Tape it's toes flat with bandaid or feet wrap, separate if other are picking on, you can make a sling for it, exercise the legs so it don't go stiff. It took my little one 2wks to recover, may take longer.

Minion's hock on the leg that has the curled toes is swollen. Not sure if that is a deformity or if it is a result of him struggling with having his legs shackled together. I am no longer going to restrict his leg movements in any case. I just have the one foot band aided up. He uses it mainly for balance and mostly just hops to move around. Minion is not going to be a regular chicken at this point... mostly his/her future will be house chicken.

I hatched some chicks last year and had a couple of deformaties. One was born with a curled toe and one was born with a missing toenail. The toe was a 1/2 inch shorter than the other side. They are now almost a year old and healthy and happy as can be with no handicap. They can run with the best of them. My wife hasn't even noticed the partial toe missing on the one. Captain Hook is at the top of the pecking order and Peg Leg is second in command.

I had to put one of my chicks down. It began walking backwards with its head turned sideways-one eye looking at the ceiling. I didn't know what else to do. Of all the chicks from the incubator, that was the one I bonded with most and was going to be my pet. It was the only Araucana that took on the trait of her mother with the full fuzzy cheeks.

This is what my Junebug is doing. I have been giving her Poly Vi Sol with no iron and doing neck exercises. I lift her neck up and out and back and forth and hold her head up in a natural position. I took her to the vet and she said she has wry neck. She gave me some anti-inflammatory meds to give her also. She can now walk and eat normal for MOST of the time but if she gets excited, her head locks up in the down position and she has to calm herself down to unstick herself if I am not there to help her.
