(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? My family had chickens when I was very young, but I got my first chickens about 7 years ago.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Right now I have a rooster and 7 hens. I have a hen on a clutch of eggs and they should be hatching any minute! I heard some peeping this morning, but was very faint so it could have been coming from the eggs. I'm trying not to disturb my hen as much as possible.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I have a mix of chickens but I know I have one Lavender Orpington and one easter egger.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I absolutely love having fresh eggs and a way to get rid of unused vegetable scraps without putting them in the garbage. I love to see the chickens roaming the yard.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
What hobby don't I have! I love to knit, crochet, sew, bake, etc. I also lead my daughter's Girl Scout troop and the parent group at my children's school. In the summer we love to camp, fish, hike, swim, kayak, and canoe.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a husband and two children (7 and 4), 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 frogs, and my chickens. I am a legal assistant.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC a few years ago when I had a chicken related question and have visited many more times over the years. figured I should finally join.

Everyone is here to help in this community. If you’d like, you could post some pictures of your chickens and the hatchlings, I especially want to see the chicks. Well I’ll go back to reading the forums, hope your family and the flock do great! Best wishes!
