Hi, I have just been guilted into posting for the first time by a very nice e-mail! I spend a lot of time on this site--used to spend an enormous amount before I actually got the chickens, and now I go back whenever I have a question or a problem--and I always find the answer! Just never bothered to post. But according to the e-mail, you really do care
! So here I am. Last May, I got chicks from My Pet Chicken, they are now 8 very fine ladies, and laying well despite our Michigan winter (I have kept a light on in the coop on a timer--learned from this site!) I have a Black Star (Maude), a Golden Laced Wyandotte (Henrietta), a Buff Orpington (Elnora), a New Hampshire Red (Betty), two Easter Eggers (Clara and Bonita), and two Sebrights (Edna, a silver, and Lucinda, a golden). They are a delight to have! They are all named after female relatives from my or the DH's family. (Only one of who is still with us--but when I asked her permission, she said she'd be honored, and in fact if I needed another name, I could use her middle name too. Therefore we have Edna *and* Lucinda, and my aunt has two chickens named for her, which is quite a distinction IMHO.
We have 10 acres near Ann Arbor, MI--8 chickens, 3 dogs, 1 DH. Eventually I'd love to add a couple goats and donkeys. We moved to this property about a year and a half ago so that I could pursue my dream of having my own personal petting farm. So far, so good. I've learned so much about chickens so far! So belated thanks to everyone who's posted before me because you people are AWESOME!!!
