Hello All,

So after months of lurking the site and answering so many of my own questions using the search function on this sight, I thought it was about time I became a member of the community here. A little information about "us". My wife and I are both in the U.S. Coast Guard and currently stationed in San Francisco, though we live in the East Bay city of Concord. She works in the Search and Rescue side of the house, and I have my fun within the Maritime Law Enforcement realm. We are FAR from preppers, but with the state of the nation being what it is, we have decided to take a few steps to be a little more self sufficient, and after seeing a "Uncle Sam wants you to raise chickens" ad/picture on pinterest, we decided to look into it getting our own miniature flock (not sure if 3 chickens constitute a flock, but I don't know what else to call em).

So after much research and consideration, we headed to the feed store, scooped up a Brown Leghorn and an Ameraucana, and a Maran 12 days later. 3 months later, and a few lessons learned, I am working on the completion of their coop and hoping to get them moved in before their 4 month birthday.

I will keep it at that for now, as I am aware my questions are to be asked in another section of this forum, but I do look forward to meeting and chatting it up with all of you. Have a great day!

Dan

Welcome to BYC from wine country up in the Western Sierra Foothills!

There's a very active "California - Northern" thread and one for the Bay Area, too. You could certainly participate in both of 'em. :D

Chicks before coop, where have I seen that before? ;)

! Great to have you with us! First, let me thank you and your wife for your service to our country - the Coast Guard is often forgotten in the other branches of service! Secondly, best wishes on your flock! BYC is a great community!!
