Hello Lute, my New Mexico neighbor. Thanks for the advice on hatching by brooding hen. This morning one egg was out of the nest. She was sitting the rest. I assume that is what you meant by "she will take care of it by herself." I removed the egg from the pen.
Reassurance from people like you has certainly taken the edge off the "nervous grandma" syndrome!
