My 'mystery' chicken disease I made many post about has been solved with the diagnosis of Lymphoid Leukosis. Has anyone had this in their flock ? How will this affect me getting more chickens ? Any info. appreciated. I have read things off Google web sites but a lot are not written for the lay person. Thanks !

Here's a link for you, scroll down to Lymphoid Leukosis (LL.) There's no 99 cent words in this link:

Hi there, sorry for your losses. I did a brief read through of some articles, here's what I gleaned. There is no cure, if you still have some original birds, it's almost certain they are infected, they may/may not succumb to it, losses seem to be around 20% flock initially, but will continue over time. Onset time of LL is around egg production time.
In order to raise a new flock, consider a new coop and run area (if possible). I would spray the old areas with a bleach/water mix anyway. Buy strains of chicken that are LL resistant. Control parasites (mites/lice etc.) since they can be a vector. Apparently LL is viral in nature, so be very cautious when introducing new birds to the older girls. Wishing you the best of luck with new girls...

THANKS ! SO MUCH ! Dawg, Michael, Boskelli ~ REALLY APPRECIATE ALL YOUR HELP, LINKS, AND ADSVISE. Gosh ! the B.Y.C. family is great. I am just SO releaved to learn what the problem is. Well ~ 99% sure anyway. Vet offered to send samples for another test but it is more than I can afford. The only thing that does not match up exact is the death rate. In a yr. it has wiped out ALL (except 1) of the birds where I think this came form. Diseases can mutate and due to our warm temps. and high humidity this may have happened. All of the other symptoms are 'spot on' . Thanks again all .
