Hey ya'll, I'm brand spanking new here and was wondering if someone could help me. Lynard Skynard died yesterday. Lynard was a Dominique rooster that my neighbor gave me about four months ago (a "Free Bird", thus the name). I'm not sure of his exact age but he was young (the good always die young). He had only been crowing about 3 weeks and servicing the ladies about a month. The day before he died the wife and I we discussing how good he looked, filled out good, bright red comb. Then I found him in the coop yesterday dead, no signs of injury and he was fine when we let him out that morning. What happened to him?? Should I do something to protect my girls?

Thanks

Sometimes birds die suddenly which it could be heart attacks or unknown heart problem. Sometimes there is no reason at all. Or he might have ran into a wall, broke his neck. Who knows?? At least you can start hatching out some of his ladies' eggs for some daughters.

Sorry and hopefully you can find another one if you are incline to get new roo.

Yeah..?.. I'm with them... Maybe a heart attack. You'll have his babies in your hen's eggs!!!! ..YaY.. Sorry you lost your Roo..

Yes you can bring out the eggs out of the refigerator, set it at room temps before putting them in the bator and you still collect the eggs from the girls about two weeks. After two weeks, most of his sperm would be gone.

Great thanks for that info!! I've just been reading about homemade bators and will start building one tomorrow but what is a water wiggler??? never seen or heard of one before????

The hens will Lay his babies eggs for about a month ish!! Just sit them all at the same time to prevent a staggered hatch!!
