MA Chickenstock...

Just moved to NW MA and picked up a couple of fair books. Franklin County Fair, Sept. 6-9 in Greenfield. Poultry judging early on the 6th. (9:30 a.m.)

The Heath Fair is Aug. 17, 18 & 19 in Heath, MA. Poultry judging on the 19th at 10:00 a.m.

I've never been to either of these, but they look like fun.

My sister, DS and I went on the 22nd. They hadn't judged the birds yet, but there were at least half the birds than there were last year.

I did go last year. Didn't quite live up to the hype. I really like the topsfield fair....but didn't get there either.

Hi All,

So glad to see so many chicken loving folks in MA! I'm in N. Central MA, but I grew up in Amherst, lived in Allston...
I got my first 6 EE chickies last April as day olds from the local farmer supply, and they (one) just started laying the end of August. Unfortunately, the weekend one started laying was the weekend I lost 2 of my girls to coyotes. I'm down to 4, but loving them up every day. The eggs are HEAVEN!! I think all 4 may be laying now, but we're not sure...
I'm currently looking for a gentle protector for my girls, some handsome, well mannered and diligent young EE roo, and maybe a few more ladies to help them all stay warmer this winter in their coop.
I'm so interested in meeting other crazy chicken junkies like myself, to see other people's set ups and swap stories. I feel like I bother/bore the few other people I know who have chickens with all my chicken questions and chicken stories...thank goodness for this forum.
