My chinese goose "Ma" has been sitting on 8 eggs, my other goose has been laying her eggs in the same nest but i have been pulling them and putting them under my bantys, i candled Ma's eggs a couple days ago and they are about ready to hatch but now my other chinese goose that had been laying in her nest has decided to share the nest with very little room in there.

Last night i took her off the nest and this morning she is right back sitting with Ma Goose , will they be ok or do i need to pen up the other goose? i hate to pen her up cause they have not been penned sence they got their feathers and i am afraid she will freak out and hurt herself.

Thanks for the help.

You mean the other one has decided to go broody? I would separate them somehow, maybe put a kennel around Ma since she won't be getting off the nest much anyway? Good luck, hope all Ma's babies hatch for her

I do not know what she is doing she is still laying and is sitting in the nest right now cause i was not sure what to do.

I checked on Ma a little while ago and took the other goose's egg out and found one of Ma's eggs has Piped so i guess i need to go ahead and take the other goose off the nest , at least if it is dark there is less chance of her making it back to the barn before i get up in the morning.

Thanks for answering my question , I have had geese in the past here but they were my daughters for 4-H and i did not mess with them, now i have raised these up and am enjoying the learning experence.
I have a baby that missed hatching on time there is a thread about her ,anyway i am going to put this babie in with her when i get up in the morning as it will still be dark.

Thanks again.

Don't worry if you can't seperate the other goose and keep her from helping sit on part of the nest. My geese always sit on community nests and I have no problems with hatching. I've had 6 hatch so far this week off of a nest with three geese sitting and I'll have another hatch in a week or so that has 2 sisters sitting on it. If you're gonna leave them in the nest when they hatch, be sure and check that the goslings don't get smothered in the first couple days because their necks aren't strong eniugh to move to get air and that was one problem I had when the geese were inexperienced. I just remove them now as they hatch and put them in a brooder for a couple weeks. Good luck with your hatch
