So we went and jumped into raising our own flock. Thank you to all the suggestions in the new member thread. We decided to start our new flock with 5 Sex Links'.

They were 10-12 weeks old when we picked them up and now they are growing fast! We are rising our new flock on organic feed and they seem to be doing well. We picked out a small coop that looks like a barn very cute and awesome.

We are currently repurposing a dog kennel for our run. They have over 100 Sq ft of roaming room. We let them out to forage for worms and other insects later in the day until dusk. We are currently feeding a grower and are planning to add a source of calcium when they begin to lay (crushed egg shells) to finish out the bag feed. If anyone has any further information or suggestions to help us in raising our flock we would love to hear from you. Thank you.

Well...We are on our way to egg self - reliance. My wife and I have made the jump from happy starter chicken people to full blown crazy obsessed chicken hoarders. Hahaha. It is a great feeling. We will post pictures of our new coop and the girls, as they are much larger now. We have eggs!!! I don't know the name of the hen that is laying, but my wife (The Hen Honey) does. See how obsessed we are, we've given each other cute little chicken names. And just so it's fair, mine is "The Rooster Dude." My wife is going to die laughing after reading this post.

Thank you to all that have replied to our posts with helpful information.
