I just went to a showing of this today with a friend. What a fun film!

I went with a friend, Larry, to hopfully be able to help get having chickens in Cedar Rapids, IA legalized. None of the city council members showed up that were invited. But I want to do anything I can to help get the ordinance passed.

About 50 people showed up.

The couple that made the film were lots of fun. They were selling these great T shirts. I will be sporting one at the next exotic animal swap I go to!

Where was the showing held?

I got a copy of the DVD a while back and really enjoyed it-- I've thought about sending a copy to my city council, but I'm not sure they would actually watch it.

It was held in Cedar Rapids, IA and the Indian Creek Nature Center. Having Chickens is legal in Des Moines, IA and was recently legalized in Iowa City, IA.

Why don't you try to host a showing if you are wanting to get it legalized in your town/city? This is actually offered on their website.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to get set up. Tashia and Robert are very helpful. Their website is www.tarazod.com .

Hey BYC Members,

This Wednesday, July 1st my special guest will be Tashai Lovington, Executive Producer of the DVD, Mad City Chickens. Mad City Chickens is a feature-length documentary on people who keep backyard chickens in the city. We will be discussing the DVD and the national backyard chcken movement.

This will be the second time that Tashai has been a guest on the Backyard Poultry with the Chicken Whisperer radio show! The last interview was great and I'm sure this one will be too!

There were no city council members at the screening in Cedar Rapids, BUT Rob Hogg, a senator WAS There!!!!

I wrote to Tashai Lovington and Robert Lughai, the co-directors of the wonderful documentary "Mad City Chickens," and asked if they wouldn't mind making a comment on the blog post in support of keeping backyard chickens. Within a few hours, I saw that there was a comment from them on the page, as well as a gracious email waiting in my inbox wishing support for wannabe chicken keepers in Plano. That was very kind of them. I haven't been a resident of Plano for very long so don't really have the contacts to organize a screening of the documentary, but maybe if this movement grows we'll be able to band together and do it.
