I'm no carpenter but I managed to make my own double nest box for my laying hens tonight. I looked at the simple plywood box Meyers has in their catalog and figured out how to do this on my own. I have 6 pullets just starting to lay - they are 20 weeks right now - I'm getting 1-2 eggs per day.
The comment someone made about looking for your eggs like an Easter Egg Hunt every day really got my attention
so I decided to do something about it.
I thought the plywood nest box I found at Rural King was pretty flimsy and I could at least do that or better (I think mine is better - at least sturdier).
For a girl - determined and stubborn - I think my hens will find it pretty spiffy! I'm on my way out to the barn to put it in their little pen and fill it up with straw - I hope they like it!
