Cull as in remove from my flock - sell off, not process.
I decided today that it was time to sell off some of my hens. They're coming up on their second birthday and I know they'll be slowing down on laying. It was hard to choose. I'd think "okay, I'll keep just my favorites", but my list of favorites kept getting longer.
When I told DH of my plans he surprised me by saying no. He's the one that has to pay for their feed (whether or not they're laying to help foot the feed bill), so I thought he would be all for it. He's not.
He said as long as I am still getting enjoyment from having the hens I should keep them.
So I guess we just started a retirement home for chickens.
