Maggots in calf's privates?

Howdy yall small herd guy been doing it for just under 2 years so you could say I am pretty new.

Our cows just calved on Sunday and today I noticed on one of the new female calves there seemed to be at least one small white wiggler in her underneath.

Should I be concerned about this? What is the treatment? Is it just "one of those things"?

I recommend that you post this in the emergencies forum. Sounds like a fly strike...

It don't sound good, you definitely will need to do something, but I'm no expert so haven't got any idea what.

It's fly strike and if not treated right away will kill the calf. You need to cut away any hair, remove all maggots/bots, apply calf safe insecticide and if she is showing signs of toxemia she should be put on an antibiotic asap.

Good advice all, thank you. We washed off the grubs and applied pour-on insecticide to the spot and the back.

You can usually find a screw worm spray at the feed store. That works well and it is made for maggot infestations. it is a good thing you found that when you did, or you could have had a dead calf.
