You know, I think you can probably follow the same simple rule whether you're growing Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL), Red Wiggler Worms, or just regular composting: If you put nasty stuff in, you might get nasty stuff out.

If you're composting human feces, pet feces, foods suspected to be spoiled by botulism, etc. you're asking for trouble (you *might* be able to do it, but you need to know what you're doing). If you're starting with clean table scraps, you're probably not breeding any horrible microbes or toxins.

That's my opinion, but I'm pretty confident about it. I've kept red wigglers for 5+ years, and I've never had any concern that the worms or vermicompost they produce would have nasty microbes in them. I'd feel the same about BSFL or regular compost.
