MAGGOTS !!!

Well this struck me as odd from the site....

The Maggot Art program primarily targets youth at the elementary school level. The demonstration can be adapted to groups of any size, from small classrooms to large exhibitions that attract thousands of visitors each day. Students of all ages gain hands-on experience with maggots, organisms that few people understand or appreciate, while learning about a number of important biological principles such as animal development, morphology, and behavior

Can you imagine the conversation the child that has used maggots will have with his or her parent about their school day?

Knowledge won't take away the squirm factor from me. I do know that such creatures are part of God's plan to keep nature balanced, so they serve a real purpose. But that doesn't prevent me from thinking they are gross.

By the way, there is a FAQ on the site. One of the questions asks if the larva were harmed in the painting process. The answer is no and that they 'artists' release the maggots when they turn into flies. I wonder how these people would feel about those of you who purposely feed your chickens maggots.

To me this is quite a stretch. Unless there is a whole unit about the stages of fly development, which I didn't find reference to on the site (but then, I was laughing so hard I admittedly couldn't see very clearly), the idea that putting a maggot in paint and watching it squirm around helps in learning about 'important biological principles' is well... I'll give them huge props for creativity

(I suspect someone needed to bring 'art' into the proposal for their grant money - so the participants would have a well-rounded learning experience. Thinking about that, the stages of chicken development are quite fascinating, and I could add some food coloring to yogurt and let the chicks make 'art' as a result of eating their treat - are mine the only ones that walk through the dish?? - hmmmm I may just write a grant myself

My fish eat a lot!

I'm also getting tooled up to start selling them as bait. The demand where I live is very good. Mostly people get them when they show up accidentally, but I'm not aware of anyone in my area providing them consistently.

I would love to get some chickens but time won't allow me to now.

It's a shame to because I buy the $4/dozen eggs.

I want free money. Can I be part of your chicken art/lessons?
