My husband and brother-in-law built this coop for when Mr. Rooster comes for a visit. Question is, shouldn't the nesting boxes be on the outside? So when they roost at night, they're not in the nesting boxes? they are still protected out in the yard. Nesting boxes are next to the roost? What do you think 🤔?

Ok I need to correct that @Hatch in chicks
is now on 15. In sure hope i get better at this. :) :he
It's surprisingly challenging to keep them all straight! You're doing great! Another hatch or two and you'll have your tracking system all worked out. If not, it just means you need to do more hatches. 🤣 chickens EVERYWHERE!

My nesting boxes are all inside, I have one coop with pullets who prefer roosting on top of thr boxes rather than on the roosting but I don't mind, just another spot to clean.

I see yours has a bit of an open top over the nesting boxes, if they do want to roost there they will be pooping into the box, this is the only issue I see. They also like to roost in the highest spot, so they may prefer roosting on your boxes in this set up.

If you can get the roosting bar higher than the boxes and the boxes away from the bar so they don't get pooped into from the roost, it will keep your eggs cleaner.

How many hens will be in with Mr Rooster?

Nice! I’ve given up trying to keep my girls from sleeping in the nest boxes like they’re their own little apartments. Luckily I have one for each girl so the 💩 doesn’t hit the fan!
