Magpie duck skin/feather problem

One of my Magpie ducks seems to have a skin problem. He/she is about 8 weeks old and I noticed that the feathers under the wings had not come in like the other ducks. I looked closer today and the down is wet and matted to the skin. I will try to post pictures. Does anyone know what is going on with this duck and how I can help it?

You might want to try treating for mites/lice with permethrin, then maybe clean that area with some betadine or chlorhexidine.

Casportpony, thank you for your reply. I will do some research and look for those treatments at Tractor Supply tomorrow and try that first. Should I treat the other ducks in the flock also, as a preventative?

If you look close you may even see the mites crawling if that is the problem. They are very tiny look down around the vent and under the wings at the skin. When my chickens had mites they actually got on me, I took a shower and they were gone but that was weird. If you decide it's mites you'll need to treat everyone and also clean out their coop remove bedding and dispose of it away from your home. Spray top to bottom in your coop making sure to get in every crack or crevise. Clean the coop and spray early so it all has a chance of drying and airing out before you put up you ducks.
