In the Brooder
I saw a thread a while back about sexing magpie ducklings on their bill patterns. Would this be trait passed down with a magpie x ancona mix?

HAHAHAH this just made me laugh so hard lmao. no snake hybrids but i WISH! I love my snake!I must be really tired because I just read this as an inquiry about sexing magpies/ anaconda hybrids and I was just like “with everything going on do we really need flying snake birds now?”
I do - but I’m not studied up on breeding traits . I believe the 2 members who may be able to answer your question are @cheezenkwackers and @KathiQuacks@Jenbirdee do you have anconas?
Thanks so much! In my experience with ducklings, if they act like a rowdy boy, they're a girl and she is sooooo naughty. Her name is Valentina for now but if she ends up being a drake, I think Valentino is very cute as well.Looking into it a bit, it seems the magpie bill sexing theory hasn’t been tested very much.
I think the answer is that, when older, females lean into dark & dull colored bills, and males light & bright. But this is true for other breeds, too. It’s unrelated to their bill pattern as babies.
So.. No, because I’m not sure it is a trait? But even if it were, I’m not confident it’d get passed down.
You can still bill-sex them later, though, at around 4-6 weeks old.
